Passover

Why is this night different from all other nights?

Those words come from the Haggadah, the book that is read at the Passover Seder.

Tonight is the first night of Passover.  And what a strange holiday it will be.

I made a mistake the other day, I searched this blog for the word "Passover".

And there is was, the rich history of my family's Passover celebration.  Followed, in due course, by the horrors of last year.  Including my promise to my very upset daughter that all would be normal in 2021, that we'd be back together like we'd been before the pandemic.

That's not going to happen.  Some of us have been vaccinated and some of us have not, so we've decided that we should have separate celebrations again this year.

Sigh.

Though what was it I wrote last year? What could be more Jewish than celebrating the escape from an ancient plague while living through a modern plague?

Next year in Jerusalem.  Next year a return to normalcy.  May it be G-d's will that we celebrate the Passover together.

  1. Hoping for next year. Sorry that you couldn't have your normal Passover celebration this year.
Our church has been closed for a year. Tomorrow there will be two ZOOM services and one "live" service at 11 AM. The church has about 150 members. Ordinarily, we don't have tickets, but you must have a ticket to attend the service, and only 40 have been issued.

    1. My synagogue has 500 families. They’ve been Zooming the live services, only a handful of people can attend in person and it has to be prearranged.

  2. We're doing much better than the pandemic of 1916. Technology been wonderful, and it does help. But it not the same seeing others. Hopefully before long we can give each other a hug.
Coffee is on and stay safe

  3. But things are better this year than last year. And they'll be better again next year. I'm sorry the whole family couldn't get together again.
