Christmas in NYC

Image
So yesterday Drew and I headed into Manhattan to ejoy the charms of the city at Christmas. We boarded a Long Island Rail Road trai n the Polar Express around lunchtime.  I noticed that several of our fellow passengers were dressed as Santa, elves, etc.  Didn't realize it until later, but that was our first encounter with participants in this year's SantaCon . Our first stop -- a street vendor for a soft, hot pretzel. And look, he even has chestnuts! Next up, the windows at Lord & Taylor. You actually had to get on a line to see the windows. But you were entertained by piped-in Christmas carols and Salvation Army bell ringers. In fact, all of 5th Avenue was one big musical festival of Christmas music. At Lord &; Taylor, this year's theme was holiday memories of New Yorkers, and there were scenes of NYC Christmases past and present. Our next stop was Bryant Park, behind the main branch of the NYC Public Library. No photo of the library,...

Biggest Loser Tuesday

Weigh-in day.  down  just .2 lbs, less than I thought.  but last week I lost more than I thought I would, so I guess it evens out... Wednesday lunch.  I ordered Chinese.  there was enough food on the plate for 2 meals.  thought I'd save half for tomorrow and wound up eatin gthe whole thing.... Friday night Mexican...Saturday Japanese...Sunday Italian...good thing our meeting is canceled for Tuesday.... as for the show --  hard for me to focus this week, I keep flipping over to Fox to see the Yankee game.  when the show begins, Tracey is in tears because the black team made it clear they thought she'd be voted off.  Cry me a river.... digging for keys for a mystery prize...something new tonight.  reward is a trip home.  nice.  and they can choose to go or to give the tickets to the black team.....so they sent the black team home. Abby's mom...what she said about Abby being full of life....so understated and bitterswee...

mmmm....Chinese food

Becca's boyfriend is here for the evening. so we decided to order Chinese food. on the menu tonight: vegetable and bean curd soup, bbq spare ribs, imperial shrimp, sesame chicken and beef with Chinese vegetables. I was going to pick up the food myself, really I was. but Jen has my car tonight...she asked if she could take mine because hers has no heat. and I just blew out my shouldeer tying to scrape ice off the windshield of Jen's Chevy (my de-icing spray is in my Corolla. which is at a party across town) so I ordered delivery. I will de-ice Jen's car tomorrow - provided we don't get more snow. (looks like Long Island will have a white Christmas this year.) FYI...it makes perfect sense to a 16 year old to wear suede UGGS in the snow and complain that her feet are getting wet, but to laugh at Mom's snow boots as "fugugly". the last laugh is on you, Becca dear...at least MY feet are dry.
