This week's questions from Joyce

1. January is National Mentoring Month. Have you ever had a mentor? Been a mentor? How would you rate the experience?

Not formally, but I have been called upon to help with the training of junior memebers of our staff.

2. What current trend makes no sense to you?

I am surprisingly not "up" on current trends, so I have no real answer for this question.

3. I saw a cartoon on facebook highlighting a few 'weird' things that make you happy as an adult. The list included-writing with a nice pen, having plans cancelled, freshly cleaned sheets, eating the corner brownie, cleaning the dryer lint screen, and sipping coffee in that brief time before anyone else wakes up. (Credit for the cartoon goes here) Of the 'weird' things listed which one makes you happiest? What is one more 'weird' thing you'd add to the list?

Writing with the pen, that would make me happy. 

I get a small pleasure from emptying out my email "In box".

4. What's the last good thing you ate?

A chocolate chip cookie.

5. Describe life in your 20's in one sentence.

It was a period of enormous learning, change and personal growth.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I am enjoying the January thaw and wishing for spring...

    I enjoy emptying my inbox too, although I do feel like it's rarely ever completely empty. Enjoy your week!

    People like writing by hand? Really? I was thrilled when I could start typing everything. (I get the worst writer's cramp, and writing anything longer than a shopping list is painful.)

    I, too, love emptying my inbox. Yeah, that's a good feeling.

    I am practicing lettering every day, refreshing my calligraphy skills, while learning new styles. It is oh-so lovely to use new pens! My current favorites are Frixion erasable pens, a Tombow fudoneske for calligraphy, and my daily go-to is a Pilot P-700. Yep, pen snob. I can send you a curated collection of lovely pens...

 So you should know that I am not a “shopper”.  I live in shopping mall heaven — I’m ten minutes from the Broadway Mall,  15 from Roosevelt Field and 25 from Whitman Shoppes — but I seldom go to the mall.  I prefer to shop on line.  And when I do venture into a store, I usually know what I want and buy it as quickly as possible.  I’m not one to browse through stores just to see what’s for sale. DISboards nonsense

found a new blog today. Love it. http://secret-squirrel.webs.com/index.htm I've posted there under various names over the last 10 years or so. it went from a sweet little board that was Pete Werner's hobby to ....well, a real nightmare. that a board devoted to all things Disney can be such a nasty, racist, childish (not childlike) place.... loving the inside scoop, though. Did I ever tell you how "songbird" was banned from the DIS? I was a poster in good standing for 3-4 years. Even booked my trips through Dreams Unlimited, back when Pete was careful to distinguish between the disboards as a hobby and Dreams as his business. Pete and Webmaster Alex were struggling with server issues, the disboards would go down more often than they'd stay up. then Pete announced cosmetic changes to wdwinfo.com, which feeds into the disbaords forum. Music Monday

Another “your choice” week. How about new music from icons of the 60’s and 70’s? Let’s start with Jimmy Buffett’s posthumous hit, “Bubbles Up”. The Rolling Stones released a new song in 2023, it’s called “Angry”. The surviving Beatles (with some  help from AI) released “Now and Then”. And then Billy Joel …    The AI effects in the video blew me away… A note about the AI effects … the Beatles used it to isolate John’s vocals on an old demo.  Billy Joel had a young man play the piano then superimposed his own face onto the image of the younger man.
