Jones Beach redux -- #skywatchfriday

As I write this, for future publication, Texas is still cleaning up from Hurricane Harvey.  Hurricane Irma has devastated many Caribbean islands, and the storm is now pounding the state of Florida. Hurricane Jose sits in the Atlantic, Hurricane Katia in the Gulf of Mexico.  The awesome fury of Mother Nature unleashed on the shoreline ...

It seems almost frivolous to post pictures of yet another lazy afternoon at Jones Beach.  And yet, the beauty I experienced, so far from the destruction I saw on television...

Interesting cloud formation behind the water tower.

And looking away from the tower, more clouds.

Interesting mosaic on the sidewalk:

Lots of birds around, of course.  Gulls and terns, of course.  But also pigeons. No geese that day.

This guy posed for me from his perch on a fence.

And his friend:

Interesting places to perch:

Pigeons in the sand:

I love to watch the sea birds fly, they glide on the wind:

There are other things in the sky as well:

You can also see ships at sea, heading towards New York Harbor.  I countered 8 that day.

And yet another view of the clouds behind the tower.

  1. Yes, totally in awe of mother nature's fury! I'm out in CA, so no hurricanes here, but the next "big one" could be just around the corner! Beautiful sky shots.
