Global Buffet

Global Buffet Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

A new Asian buffet has opened up in Levittown, on the site of what had been the Old Country Buffet, and almost directly across the street from another Asian buffet. (Price war coming soon...)

The sign in the vestibule advised that this was a "soft opening", and the gentleman running the hosting station advised that printed menus would be arriving "soon".

Inside was a large dining room with very modern Asian decor, and a friendly and efficient staff.

There were a wide variety of food choices.  We focused on the Asian dishes, of course, but also sampled some of the other offerings.

To my delight I found that the sushi bar also contained seaweed salad, cold noodles in sesame sauce (a very light version of the dish, not like some places where you think they just threw a blob of peanut butter on the noodles), and Japanese cucumbers.  Hibachi steak, cooked to order, was tender and flavorful.

Fried dumplings were crisp, delicate and not heavy or doughy.   Ditto the sweet and sour chicken.  Mayonnaise shrimp was moist and delicious.   I'm told the squid was excellent -- I'm sure it was, but I'll never find out first hand.

From the American side ... Italian sausage and peppers were grilled to perfection, the turkey and ham on the carving station were tender and well seasoned.

There were a few disappointments.  I really enjoyed the fried scallops, but when I went back for more, the dish had been replaced by ... squid.  The corned beef and cabbage, discussed by several on line reviewers, was nowhere to be found; the dish labeled "corned beef" contained stuffed flounder.  The taco bar ran out of taco shells early in the evening, and was not replenished.  Macaroni and cheese was a bit watery, the mussels over cooked and rubbery.

Desserts were uninspiring -- fresh fruit, puddings, a few cakes and cookies.  Though I did notice a selection of "no sugar added" cakes and cookies.

I hope they work out the kinks, because it was a very good meal for the price.

  1. Did you tell them of your concerns? Since it was a soft opening, they'll have time to fix those issues before the grand opening. Hopefully.
