Saturday 9

Flowers

What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Flowers (2023)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Miley Cyrus sings about gold as though it represents the best. Do you more often wear gold or silver?

I wear both.

2) She also sings the praises of buying herself flowers. Are there any cut flowers in your home right now?

My birthday was Tuesday. Drew gave me roses.

3) She tells us she's going to paint her nails cherry red. Do you handle your own mani/pedi, do you go to a salon, or do you just let your nails go natural?

I go to a salon occasionally but I usually do my own nails or leave them natural.

4) In 2019, Miley had vocal cord surgery, and her recovery required her to go weeks without uttering a sound. Would it be difficult for you to keep your lips zipped for a week?

You know it. I can’t keep my lip zipped for one day.

5) Dolly Parton is Miley's godmother, and Miley singles Dolly out as the one who taught her "how to treat people well." Tell us about someone who was a positive influence on you.

My dad was a school administrator who supervised teachers, secretaries, etc.  He always respected the people he worked with and the work that they did,

Lawyers have a reputation for having huge egos (mostly deserved).  I’ve seen lawyers treat support staff like they’re barely human.  I have never fallen into that mindset, thanks to my dad’s example.

And since I’ve seen secretaries sabotage attorneys they didn’t like … yeah, my dad was right.

6) She is a massive Elvis fan and swoons every time she watches Blue Hawaii because he professes his love for Maile, pronounced "Miley." What movie have you watched many times?

7) In 2023, when "Flowers" was released, actor Sir Michael Gambon died. Though he distinguished himself performing Shakespeare with the Royal National Theater, he is best known for playing Dumbledore in several Harry Potter movies. Who is your favorite Harry Potter character?

What you have to understand about Harry Potter … the first movie  (Sorcerer’s Stone) was released in November 2001, a week or so after my older daughter Jen’s 11th birthday.  So for her birthday we got her the first book.  (You’ll recall that in the first book/movie Harry, Ron and Hermione are 11 years old when they receive their letters to attend Hogwarts.)  Of course both girls wanted to read the book …and the next book …and the next …

And so did I.

By the time the last book, Deathly Hallows, was released in 2007, I had to buy three copies of the book …because no one wanted to wait to read it.

Harry Potter was always important to my girls — and to me.  You’ll find many Harry Potter references throughout my blog. Merchandise from the Warner Brothers Studio Store (and later the Harry Potter store in NYC), visits to Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure, my trip to the NY Historical Society for Harry Potter and the History of Magic.  Becca took a class at Fordham during her senior year; she was sorted into Ravenclaw.

I’ve read all the books, I’ve seen all the movies … I even watched the game show.

But I’ve never thought about who my favorite character might be.

Because I find villains so very interesting , and because this villain’s demise was absolutely perfect, I’m going to say Bellatrix Le Strange.

8) 2023 was a busy year for England's Royal Family, with the crowning of King Charles III and the publication of Prince Harry's memoir, Spare. Do you have a favorite among the Windsors?

I don’t have a current favorite.  I always liked the late Princess Diana.

9) Random question: Do your siblings have children? If yes, are you close to them?

I have three sisters.  I’m the only one with children.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

  1. That is nice how you and your girls read the same book at the same time. Only one of my kids had an interest in reading. He has a side job selling and buying Star Wars figures. My older grands read all the Harry Potter series. I have only seen Casablanca once a long time ago. Nice that you got more Roses and Happy Birthday!
