Music Monday
And it’s a “your choice” week.
Let’s talk about Carole King,
Born Carol Jean Klein in NYC, she met her future husband Gerry Goffin while attending Queens College, They became a successful songwriting team in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.
A couple of interesting tidbits. She was friends with Neil Sedaka in high school — he wrote “Oh Carol” for her — and one of her first jobs was making demo records with her friend Paul Simon.
Today I’m going to play songs King wrote for others. Come back in two weeks and we’ll play the hits she sang herself.
I knew Carole King had written The Locomotion and Pleasant Valley Sunday, but not the other songs. She was definitely one of the best songwriters of the second half of the 20th century.
ReplyDeleteCarole King is one of the greatest song writers of all-time.
ReplyDeleteCarole King is a fabulous songwriter and she's a good vocalist as well. It amazes me how many well known songs she composed. Thanks for hitting the 4M dance floor. Have a boogietastic week, dear friend xo
ReplyDeleteCarole King was a prolific songwriter. Pleasant Valley Sunday is one of the best she and Gerry wrote for the Monkees. Thanks for the playlist! I also enjoyed her own recordings later on. ☺
ReplyDeleteI had no idea she wrote the Locomotion she is one of THE best song writers out there.
