Opening Day!!!!
Yes, I am most definitely a baseball fan.
More specifically, a fan of the New York Mets.
Or should I say, a long-suffering fan of the Mets?
But I also like the Yankees.
I know, I know, there are many who feel that a "true Mets fan" has to hate the Yankees. But I don't feel that way. I'll support the Yankees, except when they play the Mets.
I've got tickets for one of this year's Subway Series games, September 20 at Citi Field. You know who I will be rooting for that day.
That's a promotional day, too. The giveaway is a Mike Piazza jersey. I've always liked Piazza, but he holds a piece of my heart because of one home run, hit at Shea on 9/21/2001.
I don't even care that our seats are in left field, practically under the scoreboard.
Though I am hoping we'll get tickets for at least one other game, hopefully with better seats. One time we sat directly behind home plate, in seats so comfortable that I didn't even care that the Mets lost the game....
In the meantime, there's the Atlantic League. We have become fans of the Long Island Ducks. Mets tickets are outrageously priced, but for the cost of a movie you can go to the ballpark in Central Islip and watch a baseball game. There are 8 teams in the league, and this year Drew and I will see the Ducks play each of their 7 rivals. We've got tickets to 7 games, and may add a few more. Most of the games we chose either involve a promotional giveaway, or will be followed by a fireworks presentation.
This is going to be a fun season, I just know it.
