The saga continues
I thought I was past it, but something popped up in my e-mail today …
So, as you will recall, at the beginning of June Drew and I found a house that we thought was perfect. Advertised on Zillow, it was a decent sized house, nice layout, pretty yard …we put in our application, the broker said we qualified…but the landlord decided to look for “something better”.
Then the ad of Zillow showed a price cut. Really?
After we found what is now our house, but before we moved in, I kept an eye on the various real estate sites, just in case the deal for this house fell through.
The broker re-posted the ad on Zillow, back to the original rent, the amount we would have paid.
Then I got an email from another real estate site, for a new listing. Same house, different broker, rent higher than what we agreed to pay. The Zillow ad was gone. Out of curiosity I drove past that house, and they’d done some cosmetic work on the exterior …nothing remarkable, nothing that justifies a substantial price hike.
And then we moved into this house, and I was less concerned about other rental properties.
And then today I got an email from Zillow (once you’re on the list they don’t stop …) and it’s for a “new listing”.
Yep, it’s the house we thought was perfect. Original broker, original asking price.
And the ad from the new broker has disappeared.
So … you could have had a good, paying tenant on June 15, but you wanted “something better”. It’s now July 23 and the house is empty, and you’re embroiled in the battle of the brokers. Just out of curiosity I’ll be checking back at the end of August to see if the ad is still posted.
But I’m no longer angry about the rejection. I feel like I dodged a bullet.
It sure sounds like you dodged a bullet. That landlord will probably be a real pain to deal with. I wonder what he/she is waiting for? At my last rental (where I stayed from 1983 to 2011!), we asked if they allowed dogs, and the owner said a simple, "If you rent to families, you need to allow dogs." I was happy to hear it!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're all settled and content with where you ended up. That "perfect" house wasn't so great after all. Too bad you can't go to that landlord and laugh at him.
