Cheers to all of us thieves!      Stolen from  madame writer blog         1. Have you ever played with a Ouija Board? Yes, when I was a teenager, we played with a Ouija Board once or twice. One of th girls was actually pushing the plnchette to spell out phrases to frighten the rest of us. 2. Favorite horror monster or villain? Too many to name.  But right now I am binge watching that 1960's  Gothic soap,. Dark Shadows . There were also two moives with the original cast, House of Dark Shadows and Night of Dark Shadows .  So today I'll answer the question with "Barnabas Collins".  Asl me again and I might say "Vold

Saturday 9

Werewolves of London   Welcome to  Saturday: 9 . What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme! Saturday 9: Werewolves of London (1978) Unfamiliar with this week's featured song? Hear it  here .   1) In this song, Warren Zevon sees a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand. He wanted beef chow mein. If we Saturday 9ers got together for Chinese, what would you likely order? Well, that depends on where we are going.  I've got two favorite take-out places, one of which has Thai as well as Chinese dishes.  One local restaurant has Japanese as well as Chinese dishes, the other offers a gre

  1. Is Halloween a big deal in your neighborhood? Was it something you celebrated as a child? With your own children? Do you like candy corn?  I love this holiday! I remember buying a pumpkin to decorate and  trick or treating in my neighborhood, but Halloween wasn't as big a deal then as it is now.  My kids really got into the holiday.  And right now I have a whole jar of candy corn in my kitchen. 2. Are you a scaredy cat? About what?  I like amusement parks, and I like rides, but some of the bigger roller coasters scare me...I won't ride anything with huge drops. 3. Last time you were somewhere that should have been busy but felt like a 'ghost town'?  We went out to dinner in NYC on a Saturday night.  We were in the Theater District.  We were seated right away.  Pre-pandemic we would have had at least a 20 minute wait for a table. 4. Do you like chili and if so  how  do you like it? Beans or no beans? Meat or no meat? Beef or chicken? Spice or no spice? Favorite

Nor’easter

I work from home. There are days I’d prefer to work In an office.  Days I’d like to get in my car and drive. Today is not one of those days. Weatherman says we’re going to get a month’s worth of rain in a single day.

More of the Monkees

Yes, we saw a great concert  Sunday night.  Today I found a video from the concert.   Afterwards we had dinner in one of NYC's newer restaurants.  Margaritaville Times Square . We are Buffet fans and we've eaten at Margaritaville restaurants in other cities, so we had to try the NYC version. Palm trees, tiki bar, all the usual tropical touches are here.  But the special NYC touches -- this is a life sized Statue of Liberty holding a margarita. But what really captures your attention is the gigantic version of Miss Liberty, visible from the street, with her ever-changing margarita "torch". And yes, that is a booth inside the statue. Of course we had "cheeseburgers in paradise".

A bittersweet Music Monday

Image
Two things are making my music world sad. First let’s talk about Jay Black. When Jay Traynor left Jay and the Americans, David Black changed his name and became lead singer of the group. They had many hits before they broke up.  Black continued to tour as Jay Black and the Americans until he lost the right to use the name in bankruptcy court.  Black died this weekend. And then on Sunday we went to a concert. A farewell tour. Yes, the Monkees are finally calling it quits. It was a nice sized crowd at Town Hall. Great show.  (And yes, everyone was masked and vaccinated.) Mickey Dolenz has the energy of a man half his age.  I wish I could say the same for Mike Nesmith. They played for over two hours.   This will be their final tour, I’ll never see The Monkees again. I couldn’t find anything from last night’s show, but I found a few videos from earlier in the tour.

We love to  answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions! Saturday 9: Bang! (2020) Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it  here . 1) This song is about a young man who is living on his own and doing adult things, like getting his own apartment, eating better and doing his own taxes, but he doesn't yet feel grown up. Do you remember when you felt like a grown up? First real job?  No, felt like I was playing at being an adult. First apartment?  Nope, I had a roommate, still felt like a student.  My wedding?  Getting there, but not quite.  W
