So … the wedding …

We had a full plate of festivities.

The wedding took place on Long Island’s north shore.  The venue was a Gold Coast mansion right on Hempstead Harbor.  Think The Great Gatsby and you’ve definitely found the vibe.  The wedding party and the out-of-town guests stayed at a small hotel near the venue.  Only a 30 minute drive from my home, but it felt like another world.

So I picked up my dress Wednesday afternoon, had a mani-pedi Thursday morning and headed for the hotel Thursday afternoon. We got a free upgrade to a suite!  So nice.  And the hotel manager sent us a tray of macarons.

Becca and Brendon had prepared a “welcome” bag for hotel guests — bottled water, cookies, chips, stuff like that.

And Dove chocolate.

(I bought the chocolate back in February … ran to four different stores … what I do for my daughters …)

Becas and Brendon didn’t want a formal rehearsal dinner.  Instead we had a casual party at a local bar/restaurant Thursday night. It was mostly friends of the bride and groom.  I know most of Becca’s friends, they were all in “Mom’s taxi” when Becca was in high school.

The wedding was Friday night.  The morning began in the bridal suite —all the ladies in the wedding party had their hair and makeup professionally done.  Becca arranged for bagels, etc. (including gluten-free bagels  for me and one of the bridesmaids),  so it was a lovely bonding experience.

Becca and Brendon took some photos at a local park before heading over to the venue to pose for formal portraits with the wedding party and the family.  I can’t wait to see how it all comes out!

But, as you know, Becca’s generation are glued to their cell phones, so there were lots of photos …

That’s called a “French bustle” — more complicated than a standard bustle but I think it’s gorgeous.

There was a breakfast at the hotel Saturday morning …

And then it was time to return to reality.

Sigh.

  1. The "backup" dress, right? Both you and Drew look great. Happy for you and your daughter both that everything seemed to go right. Even the venue hydrandeas put on their best. (It's been a banner year for hydrangeas-even made a network nightly news broadcast). Wishing the bride and groom many years of happiness.
