songbird's crazy world

One of my favorite Theater District restaurants is John's, located on 44th Street at 8th Avenue. Located in what was once a church, the place is famed for its brick oven pizza and its slogan "No Slices" (you can only buy a whole pie). It's loud, it's noisy, it's always crowded. and it's one of the best places for a quick Italina meal in the theater District. Drew and I met for diner last night.  He had the linguini with white clam sauce, I had chicken parmigiana with penne in marinara sauce, and we indulged in garlic bread topped with melted mozzarella.  The it was off to the Al Hirschfeld theater, 45th and 8th, for How To Succeed In Business wWthout Really Trying. Funny what brings a mom and daughter together, isn't it? Jen received the first Harry Potter novel when she was 11 years old, the same age as Harry was in that first novel. Jen read it.  Becca read it.  I read it. Not only were my children hooked, so was I.  I have always loved fantasy  -- I read the Lord of the Ring Trilogy in high school, I love the Pern books, and anything to do with Merlin and Camelot has me weak in the knees. As each new book was announced, we'd pre-order it so that we'd have it the very first day.  By the time Order of the Phoenix came around I was ordering three copies of each book. And then there were the movies.  We've all seen them, many times.  Own each one on DVD.  Pre-ordered Deathly Hallows Part I.   Counting down to Deathly Hallows Part II in July.  Remember when my kids bought The Tales of Beadle the Bard for me? We had loads of Harry Potter stuff from the late, lamented Warner Brothers Sto...

Come to New York.

OMG I really loved this movie! Each movie in the series has become progressively darker and more foreboding. This latest chapter is no exception. They're 17 now, the age of majority in the Wizarding World, with all the problems that go along with being an adult. There were scenes that made me cry... and a few lighthearted moments to brighten the gloom. The artwork on the Ministry of Magic propaganda really echoed Nazi and Soviet propaganda from the 30's and 40's. There are a few deviations from the book, a lot of subplot eliminated, but overall it was exactly what I hoped for and expected to see. It's going to be a long 7 months until the next (and last) movie comes out. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

I am a little peved right now, my nook -- bought from Barnes & Noble just a few short weeks ago -- has temporarily stopped working, and I need to have it repaired/replaced. but that isn't stopping me from reading. or from reading electronically. I've got more than one e-reader downloaded to my iTouch. and a different set of e-readers on the Droid. I recently found free -- yes, free - versions of all seven Harry Potter novels. They have a lot of typographical erros, which can get a bit distracting. but in preparation for the Deathly Hallows movie in November, I've decided to re-read all seven novels. I've finished Sorcerer's Stone and I'm reading Chamber of Secrets now.It's amazing what was left out of or changed when the movies were made. After this, I will likely take a short break from Harry Potter and read something else. but I will finish the re-read before the movie opens in November. So, what are you reading these days?

my kidlets know how much I like harry potter...i had to buy 3 copies of deathly hallows...so among my gifts this year was a copy of the new book...a charming and delightful book of fairy tales for the wizarding world...and we muggles enjoy them too.
