Let’s Go Mets!

Let me start by saying it’s hard to be a Mets fan this year, their playing has been absolutely abysmal.   But we are loyal, we bleed blue and orange.  So when gifted tickets to a game, of course we plan to go.

We had tickets for Tuesday night’s game against the Dodgers.  Great seats, parking included.  And Citi Field is one of the best ballparks in the major leagues, the amenities…

Monday afternoon’s game was rained out, rescheduled as part of a single admission doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. We both have jobs, we can’t possibly get to the ballpark before a 4:10 start time.  We figured we’d head to the ballpark as soon as Drew got home from work, but then he decided to take the day off.  I work from home, so I didn’t have to take the whole day, just a few hours.

So I pulled out the t shirt I bought in Cooperstown (orange and blue, and lists every Met who made the Hall of Fame),the baseball cap I got in 2011  honoring the 25th anniversary of the 1986 Mets, and my Mets bracelet, and off we went.

The view from our seats:

Our seats were terrific except … we were surrounded by Dodgers fans!  Seriously at times I felt like we’d been transported to LA.  Though I did see a few fans sporting Brooklyn Dodgers gear …

This close to La Guardia you expect to see planes landing …none during the day, and only a handful after dark …guess they were using a different flight path …

So… the food.  Citi Field has many wonderful options, none of which were suitable …thy have a gluten free stand with several options. They’re …meh …I had a burger and fries.  The burger was ok.  Sigh.

They had the organist on site, not just recorded music.  Our mascots, Mr. And Mrs. Met were there, of course.  Didn’t get a photo this time. And the Queens Crew dancers.

The rituals are all observed — saluting veterans and first responders, singing “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” and “Lazy Mary” during the 7th inning stretch, 8th inning karaoke…

Game one was exciting … they led 2-0 most of the game,  and blew it.  Dodgers tied 5ge game in the 9th and won in the 10th, 5-2.  It hurts to be a Mets fan.

Game two …

Dodgers took an early lead, 3-0. Mets just couldn’t come back from that.

It hurts to be a Mets fan.

Tonight we get to see our other fav team, the Long Island Ducks …

  1. Life as a baseball fan is like this. You should be used to it by no.

  2. My father and one brother loved baseball. My friend pays for cable just to watch it. Nice they have a gluten free stand, even if it didn't offer much.

    1. Yeah, better than nothing … but UBS Arena and MetLife Stadium are better for gluten free

  3. Considering how LA Dodgers gear can be gang affiliated, I'm sorry you were surrounded by Dodgers fans. I hope they weren't too terrible.

  4. Good luck to your team! It wasn't easy cheering for our local teams this year, either.
