#skywatchfriday
Yes, that’s from Jones Beach. One of my favorite places. And it was taken on June 12, just a week ago. Drew and I needed to get out of the house, and figured a late afternoon walk on the boardwalk would be perfect. This photo was taken from a vantage point between the East Bathhouse and Central Mall. You can see the water tower in the distance. In the foreground is a play/activity area, currently closed because of Covid 19.
Yes, social distancing is still very much with us, and was very much evident at the beach. Long Island is currently in phase 2 of reopening ...
A lot of the rules were not being observed or enforced. Drew and I were wearing masks, but we were clearly in the minority.
Restrooms were open, but shower facilities were closed, and none of the public water fountains were working. Refreshment stands and restaurants remain closed.
Why are there traffic cones on the car?
New parking rules, the cars are supposed to "socially distance" as well, leaving every other space empty, so that the lot fills to only 50% of capacity. But the prime spaces, closest to the sand...well, people moved the cones so they could park,
There must have been 8 or 9 ships visible from the beach. This one was closer than most.
There's a new sculpture in front of the East Bathhouse, designed to make us all more aware of plastic in the ocean.
It was weird being down at the beach with all the virus restrictions, but I am glad we went. And we plan to go back soon.
I leave you with one last look at the water tower...
I haven't been to Jones Beach in many, many years. Happy and sad both to see these pictures and know that even people who were in the center of a pandemic's havoc forget all about it after a short time. Although I have some of those feelings of wanting just to do what I want, I know it's best not to try. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteSchöne Eindrücke dieser Gegend.
ReplyDeleteI've not been to the beach here, but I'm sure it would be much the same. People are expected to use good judgement and do what's right for the greater good. Unfortunately, good judgement seems to be in short supply these days!
ReplyDeleteIt's weird to see all the signs, especially places one hasn't been since the shutdown. Glad you were able to get out to your beach.
