Weeki Wachee

Want a taste of “old Florida”?  You know, the kitschy attractions that predate Disney?  Like a postcard from a 1940’s road trip?

How about Weeki Wachee?

It started life as a typical roadside attraction.  It’s now a state park, but still has the same charm.  The highlight of any visit is the mermaid show — swimmers who perform under water.

Our friends live near the park, and we went to an after-hours event celebrating  the Christmas season.

Mermaids, palm trees, Christmas lights and Santa Claus.  A fun evening.

There’s a light show

And mermaids, of course.

Today’s story was Frosty the Snowman

Lots of fun displays in the park

I love the “snowman”

Barbie dolls dressed as mermaids, a nice touch.

Over all an enjoyable evening,

  1. I lived in Tampa for nearly two years and never visited Weeki Watchee. Nor did we visit it in our several trips to Florida since 2006. So, we were going to in January of 2020 but something came up and we didn't. We were going to on our next trip, which still hasn't taken place. So at least I got to see it virtually. And the Florida snowman was funny, although I'm sure locals may not have thought so. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
