Political advocacy

so awhile back, I joined a political advocacy group.  We do many things -- write letters to newspapers, hold rallies, volunteer with other organizations, petition government officials.

We are lucky to live in a Congressional District represented by a Democrat, a guy who believes in political advocacy and works with our organization.

Yesterday I went to the Congressman's Town Hall.  He urged us to write those letters!

So I urge you all to do it, too.

Our voices must be heard.

  1. My sister in law, who used to work in the editorial department of a major Westchester paper, gave me some tips about writing: never use "canned appeals", write from the heart, and try not to use email. Part of her job was reading the letters to the editor. Writing directly to Congresspeople can be quite effective, and so kudos to you and your fellows.

  2. I do contact my elected offical when I feel it important for me. But I live in an ultra conservative area. My voice is pretty much drown out.

  3. It's really nice to live in an area with representatives that actually represent your views. I'm lucky to have two liberal senators and a liberal congressman. But we must support them by writing to agree with their agendas. Thanks for the reminder.
