Rest in peace, Jimmy Carter
A troubled presidency but an amazing post-presidency. A remarkable humanitarian who truly lived his faith.
America and the world are much richer for his presence among us.
Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet prince;
What really got me was when I saw a picture of his house in Plains. Most presidents live in mansions. Jimmy's house looked smaller than mine, and mine's not all that big. Says a lot for the guy. I thought he was a disaster as president (or rather had a disaster to clean up after), but he was a good person and as you say, lived his faith.
ReplyDeleteExactly. He lived his faith and earned respect. He taught Sunday school well into his 90’s. He built homes for habitat for Humanity. Stayed married for 75 years.
DeleteHe's the first president I remember. (I was too young to understand the Ford presidency and before.) I knew this was coming, but it was still a shock. (Did you see that he outlived one of his obituary writers?)
ReplyDeleteNo, I didn’t see that, but he was in hospice for almost 2 years …
DeleteThe first time I voted in a presidential election was 1980, when Carter lost to Reagan.
