Life’s little ironies
So, as you know, Drew and I moved in together in July 2023. At the time I was living in a one bedroom apartment in Wantagh and he and his roommates were renting a house in Levittown. The landlord had decided to sell the house, so Drew had to move. He had been living in that house for many years, so he wasn’t happy, but he didn’t have a choice. He and I found a house in Hicksville.
The landlord didn’t immediately put the house on the market. Instead, they spent about six months renovating and updating the house. The house sold in May 2024.
We moved from Hicksville to our current house in Levittown in July.
The other day I asked Drew if he missed his old house. He said that while our current house is much nicer and his roommate is much prettier, there are times he misses the old house. After all, he spent many years in that house, has a lot of memories tied to it.
You know that I still get emails from the real estate websites. Yesterday I got an email with listings for ten available rental properties. Including a new listing at an undisclosed address in Levittown. The house looked familiar. Very familiar. Very, very familiar.
I pulled up the listing. Yes, it was Drew’s old house.
Sometimes you can go home again.
But I think we like the new house more …
There's a lot to be said for just staying put...
ReplyDeleteOf course. Did the new owners decide to rent the place, or did it not sell? Annoying, but I think you're both happier now.
ReplyDeleteI’m trying to figure that out. Drew’s landlords were a couple in their 80’s with plans to move out of state. They fixed up the house and sold it in May. The photos in the rental ad are more recent, but the current owner didn’t do any additional work in the house. If they intended it to be a rental property when they bought it, the6 could have listed it last summer. So my guess is that they planned to live in the house but their plans changed.
DeleteOh, those change of plans. Yes.
ReplyDeleteYou learned the lesson though, moving is a lot of work!
