Saturday 9

Only Love Can Hurt Like This

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Saturday 9: Only Love Can Hurt Like This (2014)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this week's song, Paloma Faith sings that she thought she wouldn't care if her lover left but now she's begging him to stay. Can you think of something you were surprised you missed when it was gone or over?

Most of my career I worked at offices located in NYC.  Which meant I had a horrendous commute from Long Island.  Now my office is on Long Island and I work from home most days.  I don’t miss the commute but I sometimes miss being in the city,

2) Paloma obviously has a powerful, versatile voice. She's also a trained dancer. Tell us about two things you do well.

I write well.  I always have had a good command of the written word.  In high school I wrote for two student publications. I majored in history and English in college, two subjects that are writing-intense. I earned my place on the Law Review with my writing ability.  And part of my job has always been writing.

My sisters love to bake cookies, cakes, etc. They’re “famous” for their baked goods.  I never bothered to bake because my sisters were so good at it.  But last year I was diagnosed with Celiac disease, which means I can no longer eat foods containing gluten.   So I’ve had to learn to bake, and gluten free baking is sometimes different from regular baking.  And I think I’m doing it well.

3) She was a judge on two British TV shows: The Voice and The Voice Kids. Do you watch competition shows (The Voice, American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, etc.)? If so, are you any good at picking the winners?

I watched Idol years ago when my kids were into it, and we actually saw the Idol cast in concert a few times. I stopped watching DWTS and Idol a long time ago, but I still like The Voice.  I accurately picked last season’s winner.  I think I’ve spotted the potential winners in the current season,

4) This week's song was written by Diane Warren. She's one of America's most successful song writers, having written more than thirty Top 10 hits. Think of your favorite song. Do you know who wrote it?

Of course.  He wrote it, he sings it.

5) She's made a fortune writing love songs, mostly from her Hollywood Hills office. Diane spends up to 10 hours a day in a room she describes as "cluttered," and admits it's an unlikely setting to write about romance, yet it works for her. Describe a setting you consider romantic.

Restaurant, fine dining, candles on the table, my favorite wine …

6) In 2014, when "Only Love Can Hurt Like This" was popular, Joan Rivers died. Best known as a comedienne, she was also a successful businesswoman, promoting her jewelry line on QVC. Do you ever watch shopping networks?

No

7) The Apple Watch was introduced in 2014. Are you wearing a watch as you answer these 9 questions?

Yes, I’m wearing a Fitbit smart watch.

8) One of the best-selling books of 2014 was The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. It won awards for best YA (young adult) fiction. Is YA a genre you often read?

Not anymore, but occasionally I will revisit old favorites.

9) Random question: What's something on your to-do list that you just can't get around to doing?

Organizing my closet and dresser,

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

  1. I've spent time this week organizing my yarn room--my spare bedroom that I'm going to use for knitting and reading. Organizing is such a chore!

  2. I am glad you have learned to bake well for your gluten free diet! That makes it a little easier to deal with when you have good foods to eat. Loved your answers! Have a great weekend. ♥

  3. I hear you on organizing. I've got a list of things I need to work on. Do I? Of course not.

  4. No one on The Voice this season is really standing out to me. Last season it seemed they were overwhelmed with talent; not so much this go-round. The person I initially picked has already been let go. So much for what I think is good!
