E is also for … Earthquake

New Yorkers are not accustomed to having earthquakes.  Today’s 4.8 quake had an epicenter in New Jersey.  I’m on Long Island.  My whole house shook.

I was more shocked than scared,

We are fine, no injuries or property damage.

  1. I was exercise walking in our local mall and neither of us felt it. That was unlike the 2011 earthquake that had its epicenter in Virginia. My desk and monitors were swaying - it was scary. Oh, by the way - we got a notification on our cell phones at 12:05 pm. Not exactly timely! Happy you escaped without injury/property damage.

  2. I wondered if either you or Alana felt anything. I'm from CA. I'm used to them! A dog I had would start acting odd (more odd than her usual Border collie odd) before one hit. We'd say, "Anna's acting strange, there's gonna be an earthquake." Houses there always had cracks in the ceiling.

  3. I've experienced a few tremors but have never been in an earthquake. Cyclone? Yes. Earthquake? No. I'm glad you're okay.

  4. it is a bit of a shock when it hits. And then it's good for two days of conversations. "Did you feel it?" "What were you doing?" And if anything of note occurred during it, you'll have something interesting to talk about.

  5. I'm glad you are ok. supposedly people in MA/RI/CT could also feel it, but I live in one of those three and never felt a thing. Idea-ist@GetLostInLit

  6. "I've been cheated, Been mistreated!"

All around me people felt the earthquake, not me.
All my life I wanted to feel an earthquake, but nope not one shake, not one rattle. A friend on the other side of town wrote that she felt it! Me nothing!

    1. My sympathies. There was an earthquake here in 2011 and I was in Florida so I missed it.

  7. By noontime, when the Yankees game started, I guess it was already a non-event. I kept waiting for John and Suzyn to tell us where they were and how they reacted, but they barely mentioned it. Too many home opener activities, I guess. PS Glad you're OK.
