After the plague …

 … comes the Renaissance.

Or rather, the New York Renaissance Faire.

An annual tradition.

This year, I actually wore a costume …er, garb.  If you’re a real Faire goer, you call it “garb”.

You can see I brought a friend along …one of my favorite fire breathers ….

Some of our favorite performers are gone.  No knife throwers this year,  the father retired and the son is working on a new act. Our favorite nuns chose to book the Maryland Faire instead of New York.

But still, there was lots of entertainment. I really love Cirque du Sewer, an act that features cats and rats,

You may have seen this act on The Gong Show or America’s Got Talent … the rats earned a standing ovation from Simon Cowell.

These lovely ladies are a comedy team known as the Washing Well Wenches.

Their show is very interactive, lots of audience participation. They had to make a few adjustments to their shtick because of COVID, but they were still funny.

One of Drew’s favorites is Arsenal Dupin. The act features Mime, Magic, Comedy and Juggling.

The Faire is presided over by Queen Elizabeth and her court. You might spot them in various places around the shire.

Or perhaps Robin Hood and his Merry Men are more your taste.  Here they are, engaged in combat as part of the Living Chess Game.

Interesting staged combat.

Of course, nothing beats the pageantry of the joust.

I can’t wait to go back next year!

  1. It's been so many years since we've been to a Renaissance Faire and it was fun. Our first one was in the Kansas City, MO area sometime in the late 1970's. Remember chicken checkers and turkey legs (and my spouse remembers the low cut...well, never mind). So I looked into it and it's still going till October 3 although it is about 150 miles from us (meaning a motel stay). Will have to give this some thought. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

  2. Since the Renaissance was directly born out of a plague, fitting that you'd get to go. Looks like you had fun.
