Saturday 9

One Night Standards

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Saturday 9: One Night Standards (2019)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The video for this song takes place in a motel and the story is told from the point of view of the desk clerk. Have you ever worked in a hotel, motel, or bed-and-breakfast?

No

2) Ashley McBryde sings that she's not Cinderella, a reference to the fairy-tale heroine warned to return from the ball before midnight. When did you recently stay up until the wee small hours of the morning?

I've had a few nights lately where I just can't fall asleep.

3) Ashley had been working hard as a singer/songwriter for eleven years before she was discovered and proclaimed one of County's best new artists. What was your life like 11 years ago?

In 2009 I the mother of a high school student (Becca) and a college student (Jen).  The college student lived at school in Rhode Island and I missed her.  The high schooler was preoccupied with getting into college and we did a lot of college visits.   Now those  girls are grown, living on their own.

I was working from home three days a week and commuting from Long Island to Jersey City twice a week.  We were in the middle of a recession and the company I worked for had just been bailed out by the federal government because it was "too big to fail".  Now I have a job with headquarters close to home, but I find myself actually working from home.

4) Ashley is from Mammoth Springs, AR. One of the most popular stops on Main Street -- for locals and tourists alike -- is Spring Dipper Ice Cream. More than 20 flavors are made right there on the premises, from Jamoca Almond Fudge to French Vanilla. When confronted with such a wide selection, do you tend to order your familiar favorite or try something new?

I'll try something new if it looks appealing.

5) In 2007, she moved to Nashville to pursue a music career. Have you ever relocated for a job?

No.

6) Whenever Ashley hears a Carpenters song, she thinks of her mother, who loved Karen Carpenter's voice. Tell us a song that reminds you a loved one.

Green Day was very popular when my daughter Becca was 13. At her bat mitzvah, she asked the DJ to play Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) as the last song of the evening.

7) In 2019, the year this song was recorded, Notre Dame Cathedral was damaged in a fire. Have you ever visited Paris?

No, but it's on my bucket list.

8) Also in 2019, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (aka Harry and Meghan) had a baby boy. Is anyone in your life expecting a baby?

No.  I'd like to be a grandmother, but my daughters aren't ready for motherhood and I have to respect their decisions.  But someday...

9) Random question: Do you always want to hear the truth about yourself?

No way.

  2. Robin,

Our youngest daughter was a Green Day fan and that's how I came to know the band. Motherhood isn't for everyone. Our oldest daughter has a little girl, our youngest daughter has no desire to have children, and our son has hopes of finding the right girl to marry with kids of his own in the future. There's no rush. It'll happen all in good time for him and as for our youngest daughter I respect her decision. We were like that at one time but our hearts changed. Have a good day, my dear!

  4. So glad to hear you're not a nagging mother who wants grandchildren. Your daughters don't need that pressure, and I'm sure they appreciate your unconditional support.
