This and that

There’s a supermarket in Westbury, 99 Ranch, that’s different from anything else in the area.  Most of the merchandise is imported from China, South Korea, Vietnam, Japan …  they carry Lay’s in exotic flavors.  I tried the wasabi flavor — very nice.  And I can’t wait to try these.

I’m wondering how they’ll taste with salsa or guacamole.

I wasn’t brave enough to try the chicken or lamb or …you get the idea…

I would have loved to buy the frozen bao buns.  I have not had a bao bun since … well, before COVID.  Now they’re off limits. Sigh.

Of course I did my actual shopping at a more typical supermarket.  Tonight I made “zucchini lo mein” — zucchini noodles, chicken, and veggies in a (gluten free) stir fry sauce.  I made the sauce from chicken broth, soy sauce, oyster sauce, balsamic vinegar, and corn starch.  The Zoodles really soaked up the sauce. Lo calorie, low carb and gluten free.

I also bought  fresh asparagus, which I am going to prepare in my air fryer.  One of the best purchases I made for my kitchen … I can thank my daughter for that idea.

Now that I’ve got the bird feeder there are a lot more birds in our back yard. Cat TV!  Both felines like to sit by the puncture window in the living room and watch the action.

Though I wish the squirrels would leave the bird feeder alone.

Look at that tail

But later, a house sparrow …

Yeah, it’s a regular Wild Kingdom around here —  squirrels, possums, raccoons, rabbits.  Someone on Ring  spotted a fox not too far from here.  And, of course, the neighbors’ cats.

It isn’t often that a commercial captured my attention.  But this one uses a tune from Gilbert and Sullivan:

Yes, I know, “Modern Major General” isn’t from Pinafore, it’s from Pirates of Penzance, but it still fits our current mood around here …

  1. Nice photos. I think these chips taste like lime, but I am not fully certain.

  2. I think there is something you can add to the bird feeder to discourage the squirrels. But, I can't say if the squirrels are smarter than it or not.
