Take me out to the ball game

 Thursday night and our destination

It’s a county-owned facility.  You park at the courthouse, and to reach the ballpark you a walk past the fire department museum and a duck pond. Actually I’ve never seen any ducks on the pond, but I did see these guys.

The babies still have down instead of feathers.

Tonight’s game.

The Long Island Ducks vs the Gastonia Ghost Peppers. The Ghost Peppers are relatively new to the Atlantic League.  There was another team in Gastonia, but the owner went bankrupt, and the team was kicked out of their ballpark and dropped from the Atlantic League.

When the gates opened, we headed straight for the 50/50 table to buy raffle tickets (we didn’t win), then spent a few minutes in the Waddle In shop.  I don’t need any Ducks gear, I have a ton of team tee shirts and baseball caps thanks to various giveaways over the years.

Then we went upstairs to the Duck Club and ordered food at the bar, to take to our seats.  I got a hot dog on a gluten free bun.

Our seats are in the upper deck, behind home plate.

The view.

Our mascot is Quackerjack.

During the 7th inning stretch we sing “…buy me some peanuts and Quackerjack…”

I was a bit distracted during the first inning. There was a helicopter…the ballpark is in Central Islip, about 7 miles from MacArthur Airport, so it’s not unusual to see aircraft, but this helicopter circled back to the ballpark about three times.

But yes, there was a baseball game to play.

By the middle of the 9th the score was Gastonia 6, Ducks 2.

That’s when they played this clip.

But alas … they lost.

Better luck next time, right?

  1. Sorry your team lost. It looks like you had a good time at the ballpark, though.
