Music Monday
And it’s a “your choice” week.
A week to honor a performer whose work has always brought me joy.
In 2015, Kenny Rogers announced that he was going to retire from live performances, that his 2016 tour would be his last. The tour, titled “The Gambler’s Last Stand”, played a performance at the NYCB Theater in Westbury, NY on December 23, 2016.
It was an incredible night. I blogged about it here.
On Saturday I learned that Kenny Rogers had died.
He played jazz, he played folk with the New Christy Minstrels, and then he was part of The First Edition, a rock band, before he found a home in country music.
Here is some of the best of Kenny Rogers.
Let's start with a song by the New Christy Minstrels, with a familiar voice taking the lead.
Psychedelic rock ...
Something’s burning ...
This story about a paralyzed vet ...
Another story song ...
His duet with Dolly ...
Another song to make you cry ...
And his best ...
Rest In Peace, Kenny. Your music lives on.

Another sad loss! :( Kenny Rogers was so talented and versatile. I love the First Edition stuff - it brings back a lot of memories. Thanks for this lovely tribute!

My pleasure
DeleteHe was a favorite of mine, too. We are all so lucky though. Kenny will live on with us all through his music!
ReplyDeleteYes, he will
DeleteRobin,
ReplyDeleteFine tribute to such a great singer! You know I didn't know Kenny Rogers did rock mewsic before now and his song, "Something's Burning" reached my ears first with Mac Davis covered it. I had no clue this song belonged to Rogers. What a diverse talent this man was and it takes learning this through today's tributes shared on the 4M dance floor. Thanks for sharing his mewsical range on the turntable. Please be safe and well. You're in my thoughts and prayers, dear friend. Have a boogietastic week! xx
I’m glad you liked it. Stay well.
