another this and that

Every now and then you have to try new things, or else you stagnate.  So last weekend Drew took me to a new restaurant, Sufiya's Grill.  A small storefront in a strip mall, it features Mediterranean and Persian cuisine.

We started our meal with an appetizer that wasn't on the menu -- the waitress called them "Persian dumplings",  but they more closely resembled fried meat pies, served with a chunky tomato sauce.  Drew ordered a platter that consisted of barb kebab (beef tenderloin) and kubideh kabob (ground beef), served with basmati rice.  I chose a platter  with lamb shish kebab, kubideh, and Persian cherry rice  --- whole cherries had been cooked with the rice.  I liked the cherry flavoring but didn't care for the actual fruit.  Drew enjoyed the fruit, so I picked it out of the rice and gave it to him.

We seldom order dessert, but Sufiya's has a house-made special: Persian ice cream.  This is saffron-flavored ice cream which contains pieces of pistachios.  Very different, very good.

Last night found us back at Benihana, using up the last of the birthday freebies.  I'll never say "no" to  teppanyaki....

Did you watch the results from Super Tuesday?  Wow, what a night!  We in New York don’t vote until April 28, so I won’t identify my candidate — though the choices have narrowed considerably.  It's going to be a wild ride, though, isn't it?  (Hint, I'm voting for someone whose name begins with "B"....)

The other day Jen posted on Facebook that it’s been two years since her LASIK surgery, the best decision she ever made.   She’s got such pretty brown eyes, she doesn’t have to hide them behind glasses anymore.  I had to laugh, though — in the photo she posted when she crowed about LASIK, her eyes were closed.

Tomorrow Becca and and a friend are headed to Paris and Barcelona for vacation.    The corona virus doesn't scare her.  In fact, since the virus is here in NYC, she says she's in more danger if she stays than if she goes.  And to be honest, I'm more concerned about her getting stranded in Europe than I am about her coming down with the disease.  She tells me she's got four different contingency plans on how to get home.

Spring is in the air!  The vernal equinox isn't until March 19, two weeks from now, but the weather has been relatively warm and sunny.  Great trend -- I can't wait to ditch my winter coat.

Change is in the air!  I am going to be deliberately vague for now, but something good is coming my way....

Oh, all right...you dragged it out of me....

I gave notice to my current employer.  My last day will be March 20.  My new job starts March 23. Same type of work, new company, new location.  I'm excited.

  1. WHOA...gf! Way so much going on (grin and laughter). Where do I begin?

I am always up for trying different foods, grin.

Keeping Becca in prayer, and as for the "virus", jmo, being overhyped. WASH YOUR HANDS PEOPLE! (grin)

I am not voting for someone with the letter "B" but instead "T". I think the letter "B" has some sort of dementia and the other letter "B" there is no way I will ever vote for socialism or Communism (just keeping it real). No biggie, still love all my friends etc.

Oh my goodness, job change? ABSOULTY WONDERFUL!!! Hopefully, you will keep us updated, smiles.

Spring was in the air here, but back to cold and snow...umm...that's western NY for ya in spring, grin.

Change can be good, my friend. smiles

  2. New job? I'm guessing you were done with the commute. Congrats.

California voted on Super Tuesday, so we've done. I'm so happy to be done with political commercials, at least for the immediate future.

    1. Yes, the commute was doing me in, no more LIRR or NYC subway, I’ll be driving to work. More details to come.

  3. Looked at the menu with husband and it sounds so good. One of my co-workers daughters (who is a health care professional living in a suburb of NYC) was supposed to be in Japan right now on vacation but, back in January, decided to switch to South Africa (and is having a fun time). Hoping your daughter has a great time abroad. Good luck in your new job. I would have voted for a different "B" but I'll be joining you in the "B" I think you are choosing. At least I am not getting constant phone calls from numbers claiming to be from still another "B" campaign. "B" is sure a popular name nowadays. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
