Katyn

the Katyn Massacre  was a massacre of Polish nationals by Soviet troops in 1940.  there's a memorial to the victims of Katyn in Jersey City, at Exchange Place, right on the waterfront, at the entrance to Grundy Pier.Occasionally you may see flowers or candles left at the memorial, in remembrance of the victims.



Polish President Lech Kaczynski was on his way to Katyn for a memorial service when his plane crashed.  How fitting, then, that the Polish community of Jersey City remembered their fallen hero at the Katyn memorial:
