Saturday 9

Calendar Girl

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Calendar Girl (1960)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

Neil Sedaka is a relation … sort of.  My late mother-in-law was a Sephardic Jew.  She had a famous cousin, Eydie Gorme.  It’s well known that Eydie Gorme and Neil Sedaka are cousins.  But I don’t know if Neil Sedaka is related to my mother-in-law.

1) How will you keep track of your days/weeks in 2025? Do you have a desk planner? A wall calendar? A pocket planner? Do you use the app on your phone?

Phone app, of course.

2) Consider your typical week. Which day tends to be your busiest?

Wednesday.

3) This week's artist, Neil Sedaka, is one of pop music's most prolific singer-songwriters, but his first love was classical music. He was so good that he trained at Julliard and won the accolade, "Best New York High School Pianist." Recall one of your passions from your high school years.

Drama club.  I was better than some, not as good as others, but I enjoyed being in the plays.

4) Elton John has always enjoyed Sedaka's music and in the 1970s, when Elton was one of the world's top stars, he requested a meeting. If you had the power to contact and then meet anyone in the world, who would you choose?

Oh my … there are a lot of people I’d like to meet.  Don’t make me choose … oh, all right, I’ll pick just one …

5) Sedaka appeared as the musical guest during the second season of Saturday Night Live. What's the most recent show you watched on TV? Was it live, from your dvr, or did you stream it?

Our DVR gets a real workout.  We watch a lot of live TV too.  We stream some things occasionally.  Last night was mostly live TV.

6) His daughter Dara sings on TV and radio commercials. What advertising jingle sticks in your head?

7) In 1960, when "Calendar Girl" was popular, To Kill a Mockingbird was first published. Have you read it?

That’s a souvenir magnet from the recent Broadway revival of To Kill a Mockingbird.  I keep in it on the wall in my office to remind me that the law is (or should be) about seeking justice.

So yes, I think you can say I’m familiar with Harper Lee’s work.  I’ve actually read the novel twice, once when I was in high school and again when my daughter had to read it for English class.

8) Also in 1960, John F. Kennedy, Jr. was baptized in the Georgetown University Chapel. His godparents were Charles and Martha Bartlett, the couple who introduced his famous parents. Do you have any godchildren?

No.

9) Random question -- Which did you enjoy more: the last week of 2024 or the first week of 2025?

The last week of 2024.  We went out with friends and hosted a small gathering in our home.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

  1. Your mother-in-law and Neil Sedaka are second cousins. That's assuming that Eydie Gormé and your mother-in-law are first cousins, and that Eydie and Neil are first cousins. So saith Propensity.ai...

  2. I'm still all about paper calendars. I keep a planner for school and a wall calendar with appointments on it. I like to look up and see it on the wall.

Alas, all of our local TV is fire coverage. They've preempted all TV shows on the networks with news. I mean, a lot of that is important info for those directly impacted by the fires. But for the rest of us, it gets old quick.
