Summer Vacation, Part 3
So it was Sunday, our last day. We checked out of the hotel and drove to Mystic. There's a scenic overlook on I-95. just before the exit;
Next stop: Olde Mistick Village
We spent some time browsing the shops. Favorites included Irish Eyes (Irish imports and ethnic humor), Garden Specialties (especially the huge cardinal garden spinner), Franklin's General Store, and Raining Cats and Dogs (lots of humor about pet ownership, e.g., "My cat lets me live here.")
(Musical Interlude: "Whale Song", the Partridge Family)
And our final destination: Mystic Aquarium
We'd recently visited the New York Aquarium, but we wanted to see this one as well.
The pride of the aquarium are the Beluga whales. You can watch them swim from the surface of their pool, then later see them inside their tank,
There are seals and sea lions as well.
Frogs, etc. in the marshland.
Alligators and turtles cohabit.
(Musical Interlude: "Three Little Fishies", the Smoothies)
The main exhibit includes sharks, sting-rays, jellyfish, and all sorts of fish.
When Drew saw the crabs and lobsters, he made jokes about dinner...
On the other side of the park, near the (currently not in use) theaters, there's an animaronic exhibit of dinosaurs, followed by an exhibit of real creatures, mostly frogs.
It was short, but it was fun.
(Musical interlude: "Weekend in New England", Barry Manilow)
Until next time...
Looks like a fantastic aquarium. Would love to visit it.
ReplyDeleteYou should plan a vacation around aquariums. For when things get back to normal, I mean. You could totally hit several cities just to compare them. (Just a thought. . .)
ReplyDeleteIve seen boston and Baltimore aquariums, a long time ago. Planning to go to the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead (the East End, bear the Hamptons) eventually. Yes, I like aquariums
DeleteI never seen whale. Some of larger fairs have competition and there so cool, what people done with them.
ReplyDeleteWhales are impressive. The Belugas are nice, but they’re relatively small. I saw killer whales at Seaworld in Florida many years ago, they’re huge.
DeleteRobin,
ReplyDeleteHow fun!I had to laugh at that turtle riding on the back of that gater. Either it's one lazy turtle or it just knows that's the best way to safety in the water. lol
WOW! Extra Pawkisses🐾😽💞
