Sunday Stealing

 1. Tell us about any lawn or garden plans you have for this month,

I'm not much of a gardener.  I planted sunflower seeds at the beginning of the summer.  Turns out the birds loved sunflower seeds...

2. "Many things grow in the garden that were never sown there."~Thomas Fuller  What does this quote mean to you?

Literally or as a metaphor?  I'm not in the mood to wax philosophical today, so I will just say "weeds" and leave the deeper meaning out of it.

3. What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think about God?

And here we go, asking yet another philosophical question...

Next week is Rosh HaShanah, ask me next week...

4. If we were chatting in person, how would I know if you were nervous.

My voice breaks, I use a lot of "ums" and other fillers...

5. Do you like the color yellow? Would I find any in your home or wardrobe?

My childhood bedroom was mostly yellow -- yellow carpet, curtains and bedspread in a yellow, red and blue print.

I have a couple of yellow t shirts now, including one from a Jimmy Buffett concert.

6. Daffodils, tulips, roses, sunflowers, day lily, black-eyed Susan...which yellow bloom on this list is your favorite?

Roses of any color are always my favorite.

7. Flip flops or bare feet?

Barefoot in the house, flip flops outside.

8. Fish out of water, big fish in a small pond, living in a fishbowl, packed in like sardines, this is a fine kettle of fish, plenty of fish in the sea, fish or cut bait...which fishy phrase most recently applies to some area of your life?

Living in a fishbowl.  Right now I feel as if I have no privacy whatsoever.

9. Have you ever been fishing? Did you catch a fish? If so did you keep it or throw it back? If you haven't been fishing is that something you'd like to try?

Once, when I was a kid, we were visiting my cousin and her family.  They loved to go fishing at a trout farm, where the lake was stocked and you were practically guaranteed a good catch.

They suggested we go fishing with them.

11 people went fishing, and not one of us caught a single fish.

I've never gone fishing since.

10. What's something you're always fishing for in your purse, wallet, desk, or kitchen junk drawer?

My mask.  I finally bought a mask lanyard, now when I go out I wear the mask on the lanyard.

11. Your favorite fish tale or movie?

12. Are you sunrise, daylight, twilight or night? Explain why you chose your answer.

I'm a morning person.  Even when I "sleep in" I am usually up before everyone else.

13. What's the oldest piece of clothing you own and still wear?

I have a "distressed denim" jacket that I love.  It wasn't "distressed" when I bought it.  I bought it in a store that was in the shopping center under the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center.

14. What's been the best and worst part of your summer so far?

This summer never really got started.  All the things I'd normally do in the summer weren't happening...no concerts, no baseball games, no barbecues, no Renaissance Faire.  But we did have a wonderful, socially distant trip to Mystic, Connecticut.

We went to the Seaport, the Aquarium, and we took a ride on an old-fashioned train in Essex.

15. Are you a Jimmy Buffet fan? If so, what's your favorite JB tune

Yeah, I kind of sort of like JB.  Here I am, at the Marquis Theater, waiting to see a Broadway show, Escape to Margaritaville.

We saw it twice -- the second time was because we won tickets in a contest.    I loved how the lobby of the theater was redecorated for this show.

The second time around, during the curtain call,  JB showed up to sing with the cast.  And he brought his friend Pit Bull with him. The audience definitely appreciated the performance.

JB does a concert every summer at Jones Beach.  We used to go all the time.  Jones Beach is a great outdoor venue, the stage actually sits in  Zach's Bay.

And the tailgating!

There's no real backstage area, the performers have to walk past the audience to get to their trailers.  One time we sat in the orchestra, near the water, and the performers walked right past us as they exited the stage.

We stopped going when the tailgating got so out of hand that we couldn't park the car anywhere near the theater.

If I ever go again, I'll leave the car at home and take an Uber.

But you asked about my favorite song.  It depends on my mood.

Today I'm in the mood for this one:

Comments

  1. I predict there won't be many fishermen among the Sunday Stealing crew!

I loved Escape to Margaritaville. I'm jealous that you got to see it with Jimmy himself!

  2. Mystic CT was one of our yearly visits when we lived in MD and vacationed in CT a lot... I'm a little jealous

  3. We didn't grow sunflowers, but had a couple of blossoms that we put outside. The squirrels devoured them. They were SO happy!

  4. The mask lanyard was a game changer for me. I love them. Loved your answers. Have a nice day!

  5. Oh! A mask lanyard! What a great idea. I'll have to search on Etsy for something cool.

  6. Love that Buffet song. You and I are, so far, the only real fans. I like the Jamaica sounds of some of his music, and the definitely Hawaiian steel guitar vibe of some.
Love that old jacket of yours. I've got an old pea coat that I got second hand and love it.
Have a lovely time of it, my sister... Aloha Kakoa ...

  7. I actually have caught a fish. I went fishing with my Girl Scout troop. I threw it back.

I think the oldest piece of clothing I own and still wear is something I made myself. If I went looking in my closet, I might discover that is a lie, but the only older things I can think of are some of my early knitting projects.

  8. Ha. I said weeds too to the philosophical garden question.
