Walk II
As I mentioned earlier, the fall foliage usually peaks at the end of October. Fall doesn’t officially arrive until Sunday.
But a few trees in my neighborhood …
A few of my neighbors have decorated for fall and/or Halloween. And some of my neighbors have adorned their homes with something even scarier— political signs and flags.
More proof we’re under a flight path.
When you walk through the neighborhood you see all the different ways that Levitt houses have been altered, but occasionally you’ll also see one or two that are close to their original appearance. And a few McMansions which have replaced the original Levitt houses.
And depending on where you are, you’ll find houses that were built before the suburban boom, and houses that were built after Levitt led the way.
I’ve lived in four different Levitt houses, and each neighborhood was unique — not bad for houses that were built on an assembly line.
My apartment in Wantagh was in the top floor of a Levitt house. Most of the houses on that street are Levitts, built in the early 1950’s. Walk down the block, however, and you’ll find three raised ranches that were built in the mid 1970’s. And next to those houses you’ll find a farmhouse that predates the Levitt homes, built in 1920. My guess is that the farmer sold most of the land to the Levitts in the 50’s but held onto the three additional plots until the 70’s.
Walking in this neighborhood…I found a private road with five identical houses, all built since 2021.
And the other day I walked past the house where Billy Joel grew up.
I’m really enjoying my walks.
Cool that you can walk past the house where Billy Joel grew up in. I occasionally walk past the house Rod Serling grew up in when we exercise walk in the west side of Binghamton.
ReplyDeleteWe know how much you like Billy Joel, so that's a plus for you! The trees are about that far changed here too.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how people personalize their spaces.
