Yes, fall
So the baseball season was a bit of a disappointment this year. The Mets and Yankees were disastrous.
But the Long Island Ducks? They made the playoffs!
The Atlantic League is much simpler than Major League Baseball. There are two divisions within the league. Each division has a “best of five” playoff series between the top two teams, and the winner moves on to the league championship series.
The first two playoff games would be on the road, with games 3,4 and 5 to be played on Long Island. Game 3 was scheduled for last Friday Drew and I bought tickets.
We approached the game with some trepidation. The Ducks lost the first two games to the Lancaster Barnstormers. Game 3 became “do or die”.
The first 1500 fans to enter the ballpark received a free t shirt.
Ironic, in a way, because the weather Friday night was definitely not summery. I was wearing a sweatshirt and a jacket and still felt cold! (Tropical Storm Ophelia showed up yesterday, bringing wind, rain and real autumn weather.)
The Ducks made a point to acknowledge the tragedy in Farmingdale; there was a moment of silence just before the national anthem.
And we were right to be nervous … the Ducks crashed and burned. Final score 7-2. The Barnstormers move on to the championship on Tuesday.
At least I got a t shirt to wear next year.
Summer is definitely over.
Summer definitely is over here, too. Brrrr. I would have frozen in those stands, but I would have cherished the shirt.
ReplyDeleteThings are just heating up baseball-wise here in the South...
ReplyDeleteSummer may be over, but at least fall is now here.
