A Wednesday Hodgepodge

Thanks to Denise for introducing me to Joyce and From This Side of the Pond.

My answers to the Wednesday Hodgepodge:

1. Can you tell I'm embracing a Cinco de Mayo theme here this week? Do you like Mexican food? What's your favorite dish? How about on the side-black beans, pinto beans, refried beans, rice? What about heat-mild, medium, hot? Will you celebrate with Mexican food and drink on May 5th aka Cinco de Mayo?

I love Mexican food.  We usually do take-out on Friday nights, so we will probably go to that mom-and-pop Mexican place.  I usually get beef tacos or chicken tacos, Mexican rice, black beans, and occasionally chips and salsa or guacamole.

2. Ever been to Mexico? For work or holiday? Love it or no? If you haven't been is this a place you'd like to visit? Can you speak Spanish?

I've been to Mexico twice.  Both occasions were shore excursions in Cozumel during a cruise.  The first time, we did a beach day.  The second time, we went to Chichen Itza.  That meant we took the ferry from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen, then took a bus to the ruins. We were the first people off the ship and the last to return,  we didn't have a lot of time at Chichen Itza and no time at all to explore  Playa del Carmen, but for us, it was definitely worth it.

Spanish?

Hablo un poquito de espanol.  Hace muchos anos que estudio espanol y no recuerdo mucho.

3. What's one thing you may accomplish this month?

Getting my head above water at work.  New projects, new opportunities, but I'm swamped.

4. If you were mayor of your village, city, or town, what's one thing you'd like to see changed, done away with, revamped, or accomplished? Is serving in public office something you've ever seriously considered?

I am very political, and I am interested in local issues, but no, I don't think I'd ever run for office -- too much for me to handle.

One local issue I'm concerned about -- contamination of our groundwater supply. Long Island is wholly dependent on its groundwater, and if our aquifers get destroyed ... the plume of contamination in Bethpage, where the Grumman plant was located, is a real problem right now.

5. What's something that may be popular, but that you just don't get?

Two TV shows, and they are related.

The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.  Too weird.

6. Can't let this week slip by without mentioning Thursday May 4th is Star Wars Day. As in 'May the 4th be with you' ahem. Are you a fan of the Star Wars series? Exactly how much of a fan are you? On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being 'I've seen every film, own the action figures, might have dressed as Darth Vader for Halloween one year', and 1 being, 'what's a Vader?' -where do you land?

I was 17 when the first Star Wars movie came out, and I was in love.  Saw it many times.   In the days before VCR's and cable, you had to actually go to the movie theater to see  a movie over and over again, and I had that one memorized.

I can't say I hate the three prequels, but I don't love them either.  I do like the two most recent movies, though.

7. Scroll back through your blog posts and in three sentences or less tell us the general theme of your fourth blog post. Does it still ring true today? Is it a topic you re-visit on your blog from time to time?

My fourth post was about our cat Daisy.  We no longer have Daisy, but I do talk about my family cat  Redford and Drew's cat Duchess  from time to time.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I'm glad the weather is nice today, I was so tired of the rain.

  1. I don't get The Bachelor, either. Have you seen UnReal? It's kind of a send up of it, but on Lifetime (so, fiction). I think I might enjoy that. (Haven't seen it. I'm so far behind on my current TV shows that I'm not planning to start another just yet.)

  3. Not a big TV fan...But our gov't needs to more for the low income people. I wouldn't mind anti up a few coins in my taxes.
