More ramblings

I’m a little down today.  We were supposed to be on a plane to Florida this morning.  We haven’t done any traveling in awhile — we moved house July 2023, and in July 2024 we moved again,  and married off a daughter, so there hasn’t been time to travel.  And I was really looking forward to seeing our friends.  We will have to reschedule. Sigh.  I hope her mother will be ok.

I guess I can get started on the yard work, though.

And I don’t have to worry about the cats missing us.

And I can start planning the Memorial Day barbecue.

We planned a very short trip, only five days, because Drew didn’t want to miss rehearsal.  Right now they’re scheduled to do four shows at the end of June, but the director may add a few performances.  He’s really enjoying this.

I hate it when a restaurant I like closes.  A few weeks ago it  the Greek takeout place that was just down the street.  The storefront is completely empty.  We have two other Greek places nearby.

But now … there was a unique sandwich shop, they specialized in pastrami.  We went there at the beginning of April and they were closed.  The sign on th3 door said they would reopen during the second week of April.  They are still closed.  It’s a real mom and pop kind of place, so I hav3 to wonder what happened …

Remember my post about the two water towers?  The Hicksville water tower is .6 miles from my house and visible from my street.  The Levittown tower (the source of my water) is .9 miles from my house. Back in November I postulated that I could probably see both towers from the roof of my house — not that I’d actually climb up there to prove it, of course.

Well, the other night I looked out from an upstairs window.  Off in the distance I saw some red lights.  I didn’t know what they were.  The next night, at dusk, I used my binoculars.  I could just make out the top of the Levittown water tower.

Yeah, silly things that fascinate me these days. Birds, aircraft, clouds, porches,  local wildlife and water towers …

  1. Sometimes, things work out better than we could have hoped at first, and I hope this is one of those times. I hope your friend's mother gets out of the hospital and on the road to recovery soon so you can reschedule.
