So about those photos …
I guess I am a dinosaur, or maybe I’m living under a rock, because the first time I heard the term “photo blogging” was earlier this week.
I mean, I’d heard the terms “photo essay” and “photojournalism”, but I was totally unaware that there was an actual term to describe posting photos on your blog.
When I first started blogging — my first post was in October 2008 — my blog was almost exclusively text. The technology 17 years ago (OMG, 17 years?) was very different than it is now. But as the technology changed, as it became easier to post photos to the blog, I began to illustrate my text.
But now, in 2025, posting photos is so simple …I snap a picture with my iPhone, press a few buttons, and voila!
You get to see what I see.
I’m not a particularly talented photographer, but I am an enthusiastic one.
So when I’m sitting in the living room and the cats do something cute, I take a picture. When I take a walk in my neighborhood or in the park, I’m thinking about what sort of photos I can post to the blog. And I take pictures.
Many of my blog posts are focused on the photos, with very little text. Skywatch Friday …Feline Friday …Wordless Wednesday …all blog hops based on photos.
A century from now historians will examine our blogs, our vlogs, our social media posts, our TikTok’s and YouTubes, they’ll see our pictures and read our words, they’ll hear our voices, and they’ll gain a lot of insight into our lives.
I hope to provide them with plenty of material.
It's amazing how much easier it is to post photos than when we first started blogging. Now we can even post videos with ease.
