Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme.
1) The lyrics tell us about a romantic summer night on a balcony. Does your home have a balcony?
No. Back in the 90's, though, I lived in a lovely two bedroom apartment, on the 6th floor, with a balcony. The balcony faced west, overlooking a highway and a cemetery, with the NYC skyline in the distance. Looking south I could see the control tower at JFK and looking north I would try to see Shea Stadium -- never actually saw it, but I always kept trying....
2) Taylor Swift sings that her father warns her boyfriend to stay away, but she sees him anyway. Tell us about a time you defied your parents.
Not defied, exactly, but I can relate to Taylor...my parents were never happy with any of the guys I dated.
3) The castle in this video looks European, but it's in Arrington, TN. Castle Gwynn is the site of the annual Tennessee Renaissance Fair. This May the festival will be back, and among the items food vendors are offering are Scotch eggs. When did you most recently eat eggs, and how were they prepared?
I was kind of hoping you would ask about the Renaissance Faire. I love going to the Faire, I make it a point to go every summer. The New York faire was cancelled last year, but I am hopeful they will be able to put a faire together this year.
As for eggs...I made myself an omelette. cheese, bell pepper, onion, mushroom.
4) Love Story is also the story of Jenny and Oliver in a book by Erich Segal and a movie starring Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neal. Are you familiar with either the book or the movie?
"Love means never having to say you're sorry." Yeah, I'm kind of familiar with both, having read the book and seen the movie.
But I much prefer this, from What's Up Doc?
5) Taylor was born in Reading, PA. which is home to the Reading Railroad, one of the four railroads featured in Monopoly. Without looking it up, can you name the two most expensive Monopoly properties?
Boardwalk and Park Place, of course.
6) When she's not performing on stage, Taylor likes to keep it casual and prefers to wear cowboy boots. Tell us about your favorite footwear.
I live in Crocs flipflops all summer. Unlike most flipflops, thye have arch support -- which I need -- but they are so comfortable. I have the in like 7 or 8 different colors.
7) Taylor's brother, Austin Swift, is an actor and producer who studied photography at college. Think about the last picture you took. Did you use your phone, tablet or camera? (Feel free to share it, if you'd like.)
A repost from earlier this week:
Yes, an onion volcano at a Japanese restaurant, taken with my phone.
8) In 2008, the year this song was popular, the Emmy Award winning show Breaking Bad premiered. Were you a fan?
Nope.
9) Random question: You and your best friend sit down to write the story of how/when you met. Do you think the stories would be almost the same or quite different? (In other words, will you two remember the event the same way?)
What's Up Doc is a delight. If you're a movie fan, listen to the You Must Remember This podcast series about Polly Platt. She was married to Peter Bogdonavich and worked on What's Up Doc and has some stories.
So you should know that I am not a “shopper”. I live in shopping mall heaven — I’m ten minutes from the Broadway Mall, 15 from Roosevelt Field and 25 from Whitman Shoppes — but I seldom go to the mall. I prefer to shop on line. And when I do venture into a store, I usually know what I want and buy it as quickly as possible. I’m not one to browse through stores just to see what’s for sale. There’s a local chain, Baked By Melissa , that specializes in mini cupcakes. They’re primarily in Manhattan. A few years ago Becca introduced me to their product - delicate little cakes, exquisitely decorated, very tasty. I walk past their shop on 7th Avenue whenever we go to the theater. Well, last week I remembered that they used to have a second shop on 7th, right next to the original shop, but selling gluten-free versions of all their cupcakes. The gluten-free shop closed, but the company continues to make a gluten-free version of their product. So I thought that gluten-free cupcakes wou
Another “your choice” week. How about new music from icons of the 60’s and 70’s? Let’s start with Jimmy Buffett’s posthumous hit, “Bubbles Up”. The Rolling Stones released a new song in 2023, it’s called “Angry”. The surviving Beatles (with some help from AI) released “Now and Then”. And then Billy Joel … The AI effects in the video blew me away… A note about the AI effects … the Beatles used it to isolate John’s vocals on an old demo. Billy Joel had a young man play the piano then superimposed his own face onto the image of the younger man.
thanks to suzanne , I decided to join the party. I got into blogging last year because of Suzanne. I've known her on message boards for awhile, but I've gotten to know her much better since entering the blogosphere. I've also met several others whose blogs I am starting to love, and look forward to meeting even more bloggers now that I've joined the party. So I guess that means I have to introduce myself. I am a single mom from Long Island. My older daughter, Jen, is a college freshman, going to school in New England. Younger daughter, Becca, is a high school junior. I am also an attorney with an insurance company, with offices in Jersey City, NJ, a really "wonderful" commute. I sit on the board of trustees at my synagogue (which means I do a lot of volunteer work there!), and I am active in various fundraisers for the American Cancer Society, currently planning for this year's Relay for Life. I like ot take photos, so you'll see many of them in
"Love means never having to say you're sorry." is one of the top movie quotes.

I much prefer What's Up, Doc? to Love Story. I am of the generation that got named Jennifer because of it. I knew so, so many Jennifers.
ReplyDeleteAha! Someone else who remembers that dingy line from Love Story. That is a scream, that clip!
