Florida vacation, day two, EPCOT part 2

So, here we are in EPCOT.

So, what did we do in EPCOT?

A lot, actually.

The park is divided into two sections, Future World (which has a science/ecology viewpoint) and World Showcase, which features pavilions from several countries.

We started with Spaceship Earth.  Like much of EPCOT, this ride has an educational component; it gives an overview of man's history, focusing on communication, and suggests a wonderful future in which global communication will become even easier.

Next we walked over to Test Track.  This ride is sponsored by Chevrolet.  First you stand at a computer terminal and design a car, then you ride a "test vehicle" on a track.  It's like a roller coaster, lots of banked curves, but no drops.

We designed our vehicle and prepared to ride...but just as we got to the front of the line, the cast members announced that the ride was experiencing technical issues and had to be shut down.  At least we didn't get stuck on the ride --- on our last Disney trip we got stuck on Pirates of the Caribbean for about 20 minutes.

We were given passes to come back later.  When we returned that afternoon, we were able to ride.  But we weren't able to design a car -- our computer terminal froze.

And guess who forgot to bring a scrunchie for her hair?

Our next ride was Mission:Space, a flight simulator.  When we visited Disney the last time, Drew rode the more-intense "orange" version of the ride, but I chickened out and rode the "green".  Later he told me I'd made a wise choice.  This trip, we both rode green.

Next up was Journey Into Imagination, with our friend Figment and some funny bits from Eric Idle.

We walked over to the World Showcase, and into the Mexico pavilion, where there is a cute boat ride featuring Mexican culture and...Donald Duck  Yes, there has to be a Disney connection.

And then, on to Norway.  This pavilion used to host a boat ride about Norwegian culture, including some "scary" trolls.  Disney recently converted the ride  to celebrate the hit movie, Frozen.  Same boat track, different scenes to view.

We had lunch at the China pavilion, a sit-down meal at Nine Dragons Restaurant.   The food was overpriced, but what isn't at Disney?  The menu is somewhat limited, but we both enjoyed our lunch -- we hared an order of pot stickers,  Drew had Happy Family (stir fried beef, chicken and shrimp) and  I had the honey-sesame chicken.  Service was very attentive.

Our afternoon activities  included Test Track, and then we walked over to The Land to ride Soarin' Around the World.  You sit in a skilift-like chair,  and watch an IMAX movie.  The chair moves, giving you a feeling of flying over the scenery.

Also at The Land is a boat ride, Living With the Land, which takes you through a hydroponic farm.

You knew there's be a Mickey topiary somewhere in this garden, too.

Next was The Seas.   There's a ride that celebrates Finding Nemo which takes you to an aquarium.  Lots of fish, a sea turtle, some stingrays and even a shark.  Worth a look.

Then it was back to the Imagination pavilion, to the theater that once housed "Captain Eo", a short 3D film starring Michael Jackson.  These days the theater features three short Disney/Pixar films.  Not a headliner, but worth a look if you have the time.

Dinner was at Restaurant Marrakesh in the Morocco pavilion.  We loved this place the last time we were at Disney, but were disappointed because the musicians took their break shortly after we were seated at our table, and di not reutrn until we were eating dessert.

This trip, we were not disappointed. Not only did we hear great music, we got to see a dancer perform.

Drew had beef shish kebab, two skewers of beef served with rice.  I ordered the chicken couscous, and wound up with half a chicken on my plate.  The food was wonderful, but my dish was way too much to eat.

We wandered about the World Showcase for awhile (loved the toy trains outside Germany) and then found our spot for Illumination -- the fireworks/multimedia presentation than ends each EPCOT day (at least for now -- they're planning to replace it soon).

And yes, Every Person Comes Out tired.
