Florida vacation day 3 — Animal Kingdom
Today’s playlist
Circle of Life -- from The Lion King
Run Through The Jungle -- CCR
The Lion Sleeps Tonight -- The Tokens
Baby Elephant Walk -- Henry Mancini
Our second Disney day brought us to Animal Kingdom.
In that second shot, the photographer asked us to roar like lions...
The entrance to Animal Kingdom is beautifully decorated, beautifully themed. And no one sees it, because they're all so busy running to Pandora, the area of the park devoted to the movie Avatar. If you can't get a Fastpass for the rides in Pandora, you have to get there when the park opens or you might be waiting in quite a long line to ride.
First up was Flight of Passage, a flight/simulator/3D/immersive experience.
And major disappointment when I could not ride. The leg restraints would not latch....
Drew loved it, though.
The other headliner in Pandora is the Na'vi River ride, a gentle boat ride featuring the people of the planet Pandora. Beautifully done.
And then we saw this guy:
I was a bit disappointed by Kilimanjaro Safaris, but I knew I would be -- I'm spoiled by the Bronx Zoo. But we did get to see a few animals, even got a few good photos.
We rode Dinosaur, in which you pretend to go back in time to retrieve one of the beasts:
And we rode Expedition Everest, a roller coaster that has a Yeti theme:
We also rode Kali River Rapids, which is the same ride you'll find in any amusement park. Used to be better, they used to have great special effects...We wore ponchos so we would not get wet.
The 3D show at Animal Kingdom is called It's Tough To Be a Bug. Fun show, great effects.
We took in one live show, Legend of the Lion King. This show features singers, acrobats and animatronics.
We had lunch at a counter-service restaurant called Pizzafari -- great personal pan pizzas -- and dinner at the Rainforest Cafe. This chain, which features animatronic jungle animals and aquariums filled with real fish, is a perfect complement to Disney's park. We both enjoyed the coconut fried shrimp, and I indulged in a slice of key lime pie.
The evening show at Animal Kingdom is called River of Light. It involves boats, projections onto water screens, and music. No fireworks -- that would disturb the animals.
My camera died just as the show was beginning, so all I could get was this lotus. It becomes a fountain later in the show.
Nameste.
Fitbit says we walked 10.15 miles.

Wow, looks like Drew and you are having a good time.

Can you walk now? I mean, do your legs kill? You've done quite a lot of walking. Of course, that's par for the course at Disney.
