Ah, the feeling you get when you set your "away" message and walk out of the office...

Our travel to Florida was fairly routine.  A friend drove us to JFK, where we boarded a flight to Orlando.  No major mishaps, but I couldn't figure out how to use the  free WiFi on the plane -- the iPad connected to the WiFi, but wouldn't allow access to the net.  I  remembered to bring my new camera, but left the instruction manual and extra battery at home.

Arrived in Orlando, where it was sunny and warm, a major contrast to the cold, rainly weather we left behind in New York

Picked up our rental car and drove to our friend's vacation home in Davenport.  The tolls on Florida roads are ridiculous.

Our friend owns a unit at Regal Palms.  This is a resort community, with amenities including a pool, gym, spa...and just nine miles to Walt Disney World. Our friend has a four bedroom town home, which he lists on Air bnb.  Lovely, lovely home, we rented it for out entire vacation.

A few minor mishaps -- the batteries died in the electronic door lock, the battery died in the downstairs smoke detector, and the cable box had to be rebooted, but once we fixed the problems, we absolutely loved the house.

Ther's a Publix Supermarket and a CVS drugstore near the complex. We picked up some necessities, had dinner itne the Regal Palms clubhouse, and called it a night.

Our Disney adventure would begin the following morning.

  1. I bet you were sick of changing batteries by the end of that day. Funny how they all went out at once.

  2. And our friend wasn’t happy about it, either. He pays $$$$ for the management company to take care of the property.

  3. Interesting. We are starting to look around for possible snowbirding in Florida. But between the Orlando traffic and tolls, I am not sure I would want to stay anywhere in the Orlando metro area - although I have to admit I've only been on U.S. 27 between Orlando and Lake Wales, and have no knowledge of Davenport. I'll be reading your posts with interest. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
