Saturday 9

r and Lace

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Saturday 9: Leather and Lace (1981)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) As you answer these questions, are you wearing leather, lace, or both?

Neither at the moment.  I wear leather shoes and leather belts frequently. I’ve got a couple of lacy items in my wardrobe but I don’t wear them often.

Now, if you’re using leather and lace as symbols, like in the song … I think I’m a combination, conventionally feminine in many ways, but strong like leather when I have to be.

2) This song is a duet between members of two superstar groups – Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac and Don Henley of The Eagles. Which band do you listen to more often, Fleetwood Mac or The Eagles?

Love them both! But I own more Fleetwood Mac albums.  And I’ve seen Stevie Nicks in concert in 2012, and I’ve seen Fleetwood Mac in concert in 2013. I’ve never seen the Eagles perform live,

3) In this duet, "lace" tells us she is stronger than we know and "leather" admits that sometimes he's vulnerable. Do either side of this lyrical equation apply to you? Do you think you're either tougher than people realize, or more sensitive than they know?

I think people view me as tougher than I am.

4) Both Stevie and Don are born Westerners. Stevie spent her early childhood in Arizona and Don was born in Texas and stayed there through college. Today Stevie has two homes – one in Pacific Palisades and another in Phoenix – while Don has a beautiful home in Dallas. Do you feel rooted where you are? Or can you see yourself moving to another city or state in the future?

Born and raised on Long Island, lived here my whole life except when I went away to college.  I never thought I’d want to leave, but now I’m finding myself open to the possibility of leaving.

5) Stevie and Don were romantically involved in the 1970s, but after they broke up they remained friendly. Not only did they record this song in 1981, they went on tour together in 2005. Have you recently heard from an ex?

No.

6) Stevie admits a lifelong passion for Animal Crackers, those little cookies shaped like tigers, bears and elephants. Is your go-to snack sweet, like Stevie's, or is it salty?

Depends on my mood.  Lately I’ve been indulging in gluten free Chips Ahoy cookies and gluten free Cheez-its.  I’m so happy that I can find gluten free versions of some of my favorites.

7) Don likes Velveeta on his burgers. Describe your ideal cheeseburger.

Jimmy Buffett said it well …

8) In 1981, when this song was popular, both Maserati and Mercedes Benz introduced luxury convertibles. Have you ever owned a convertible? Would a convertible be practical for your lifestyle?

No, I never owned a convertible, and I don’t plan to.  I like my Prius C.

9) Random question: What are you most looking forward to this week?

It’s going to busy!  You know I love live theater and live music.  We have tickets to see Ragtime on Broadway this week.  Then next weekend we have tickets for two concerts.

Here’s a hint …

And …

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

  6. I remember this song. Played on the radio a lot when I was a kid. I did not know until seeing this now that Don Henley was the other singer. Of course, I had no idea who he was in 1981 while I was familiar with Stevie Nicks. (I didn't know who he was until 1984 and "The Boys of Summer".) In 1981 I was 10.

  7. I am not familiar with the song. I never cared for Fleetwood Mac (or Stevie Nicks), not ever, not one song! As for The Eagles, I like some of their songs, but I always like the Jackson Browne version of their Take it Easy. It got way more radio time, at least in CA, where he was from. The Eagles have more twang.
Sounds like you'll have a busy few weeks, but fun ones!
