Ramblings

Busy weekend. Great concerts by Tommy James and Micky Dolenz.  I now have inspiration for two new “Music Monday” posts.

Laugh out loud moment of the day.  I went outside to pick up our newspapers (I read the news online, but Drew is old school and likes real newsprint).  I was standing on my driveway when a lady and her dog walked by.  The dog started barking at me, as if I were invading its territory instead of the dog walking past mine.

Did I mention that Drew wants a dog?  A small dog, like a dachshund.  I think acoge would be interesting … Duchess and Shadow would unite against a common enemy.

McMansions have become controversial in my town.  What happens is a developer buys a house, tears it down and replaces it with a much larger, modern house.  The neighborhood discussion is that: (1) no one wants to live next to a construction site; (2) the new houses are ugly, sterile, and don’t mesh with the neighborhood style; and (3) half of them are still empty.  I suspect the real issue, though, is how home values are being affected.  The one that’s being built near me will take up almost the entire lot, with virtually no backyard. The other day I saw a Facebook post seeking to change local zoning laws …We don't own our house, so we’re not fully invested in the dispute.  But yeah, the new houses are changing the neighborhood, and not in a good way.

Who said “April is the cruelest month”?  We had a taste of summer weather, and now we are back to freeze warnings!  Guess it’s a good time to make our escape to Florida.

  1. It's nice to make some changes to older homes, but yeah, those mcmansions are hideous. But also yeah, not your fight, really.

  2. I can just see Duchess' glare if a dog enters her domain! I don't know your cats well, but it seems like Shadow would love a dog, maybe to tease. Do you mean a corgi? They're a herding breed, a big dog in a small body. Of course, a dachshund is a hunting dog! I'm all for dogs! You live in the area of some great rescue groups, maybe they have one. Lots of purebreds are ending up in shelters these days.

  3. We hope for none of those McMansions in our subdivision. So far, so good, but as bad if not worse is the slum lord who buys homes in neighborhoods here and turns them into so called "rehab houses," where addicts can live after treatment. They have Federal protection and most of the residents are still using anyway because there's no oversight. Houses around them are seeing an uptick in crime, of course.
