Wednesday HodgePodge

 1. It's Thanksgiving week in the US of A so let's talk turkey. And by turkey I mean the elephant in the room because it's still 2020 and our blogs are a record of sorts of the times in which we live.

Do you live in a state (or if you're outside the US, a country) that's instituted restrictions on the size of gatherings in your own home? What do we think about this? (keep it classy folks)

Long Island, NY.  We got hit very hard by the virus last spring, had a very extensive lockdown.  We began to open up during the summer, slowly of course.  Right now we have a mask mandate, the schools are doing a hybrid of in-school and remote learning, businesses are open but at reduced capacity,  and we have a restriction on the size of indoor gatherings at private homes.  Restaurants must close by 10 PM. Our infection rate is rising, however, and I fear we may have more restrictions coming back.

Data for Suffolk County:

On Nov. 23, 2020, 12,670 people were tested for #COVID-19; 501 were positive (4.0%); 20 were hospitalized (total 161), 1 died and 19 were discharged. Since March 22, 57,366 have tested positive (4.2%); 2036 died and 6,286 were discharged. Covid-19 cases

2. Let's move in a cheerier direction. Will there be corn on your holiday dinner menu? How so? Cornbread-corn pudding-corn chips and dip-cornbread dressing/stuffing-corn chowder-or regular canned, frozen or fresh corn in a bowl...which of the 'corns’ listed is your favorite?

Drew and I are going to a restaurant for dinner Thursday, so I am not sure what kind of corn will be on the menu.

3. What is there a cornucopia of in your home, job, or life currently?

In classical antiquity, the cornucopia, also called the horn of plenty, was a symbol of abundance and nourishment, commonly a large horn-shaped container overflowing with produce, flowers, or nuts.

Right now I am slightly obsessed with candle holders, specifically lotus candle holders. the lotus is associated with rebirth and enlightenment.

4. Have you ever quit something (such as a habit, a food, a time-sucker, a relationship) cold turkey? Is there something you need to quit cold turkey?

No.

5. Share a favorite verse, quote, saying, or song lyric relating to gratitude.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

  1. Right now there's a battle over in-person dining. The county has shut us down, but a city may go against the county order. My city is one of the cities in the county that has its own health department, but they've been in lockstep with the county. It's the other city with its own health department that's making rumblings it might not go along. We'll see. I expect more restrictions soon. (But I'm still working. Did I suddenly become an "essential worker"?)
