hunkering down and keeping busy

So when you can't go to a movie theater, a baseball game, a concert or a Broadway show, how do you fill your leisure time?

Well, first of all, you spend a lot of time blogging about fun things that happened in the pre-pandemic world.

And then....

There's very little worth watching on TV lately.  Tomorrow night I'll watch the finale of Survivor, and then...well, we'll just have to find something to stream, I guess.  Neither of us has seen any episodes of Star Trek:Discovery. I think they're up to Season 3.

And since there are no current Mets games, SNY has been showing Mets classics.  The other night I watched Game 5 of the 1969 World Series, the Mets vs. the Orioles at Shea Stadium.  Pearl  Bailey sang the national anthem, Joe DiMaggio threw out the first pitch.  The game was played in the afternoon, and all fans were dressed up, the men in suits and ties, the women in skirts and heels.  And it was the first time Davey Johnson made Mets fans happy in the World Series...

(He played for the Orioles at the time, and hit a fly ball that turned out to be the last out in Game 5, which meant the Mets won game and the World Series.  He'd go on to manage the World Champion 1986 Mets.)

Now they’re showing the 1986 National League playoffs, the Mets vs. the Astros, leading up to the 1986 World Series.

And then, of course, Drew has an excellent DVD collection.   Last weekend we watched two movies.  The first was Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.  We had tickets to see it at a sneak preview last October,  but the theater had technical difficulties that night and wasn't able to show the film.  It was a fun film, but not nearly as good as the first Maleficent movie.

But then we got serious and watched 1917.  (Well you know we are history fans).  Very intense film.  Lots of emotional highs and lows.  I'd definitely recommend it.

There's lots of stuff on YouTube.  Here' are two videos that  Drew and I really liked.

And we are both doing a lot of reading.  Loaded onto my nook right now?

It's the novelization of Season One of the latest Star Trek series. We watched every episode of the series, and can't wait until the next season comes around.  In the meantime, I'll read the book.

Sigh...

  1. You have CBS All Access? Have you seen The Good Fight? Or Evil? (I saw that Evil was there; it was originally broadcast Thursday nights, I think.)

I just watched Picard. Oooh, that was great.
