Let's talk football!!

I am a Giants fan, more as a matter of hometown pride than of genuine love for the game. I've been to the late Giants Stadium, but never for football -- took the girls to see Green Day, and took Becca and her friends to the Bamboozle. And Drew and I saw Bon Jovi at the new Meadowlands Metlife Stadium. But football? No, never been there for that.

Still, as a New Yorker, I can't help but feel the excitement that today's playoff game brings -- our Giants meet the San Francisco 49'ers. The winner gets to go to the Superbowl and play the winner of the Ravens/Patriots game. You know I am hoping for a repeat of 2008, a Giants/Patriots Superbowl, with the same outcome, of course.

But I am getting ahead of myself. First comes San Francisco. And how to salute this momentous occasion?

My friend Daisy is a real Packers fan, even bleeds green and gold for her team. If fortunes had been reversed and Green Bay prevailed last week, I know Daisy would be talking about "eating the opposition", i.e., preparing a feast of foods associated with San Francisco. Crab Louie with green goddess dressing perhaps, sourdough bread, cioppino.

But I'm not really a cook. What could I make? "Rice-a-roni, the San Francisco treat"? Not really my style. Instead, I will offer up this musical salute:

  1. We weren't trying to eat the opponent today. Ironically, Chuck made fried rice from Rice-a-Roni.

    Consider the 49-ers eaten.
