Saturday 9

Lights

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Saturday 9: Lights (2011)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song was inspired by a young Ellie Goulding's fear of the dark. What scared you when you were a kid?

I am sure I was afraid of a lot of things, but I really don't remember anything truly horrifying.  Well, except that one time when my parents had a really bad fight.  They never fought in front of us, and so when they had that fight....

2) She thinks back to the room where her brother and sister slept and she felt safe. Did you share a room when you were growing up?

Yes, my sister and I shared a room until I was 8.  We moved to a new house and I had my own room.

3) Ellie Goulding grew up in public housing and worked her way through the University of Kent in Canterbury. Back in those days, her favorite job was theater usher because it offered her the perk of seeing plays for free. What's the most recent "freebie" you scored? (This includes a buy one/get one deal, extra points on your credit card, etc.)

I have the Dunkin' Donuts app on my phone.  When I was working in an office I'd get coffee from Dunkin' once or twice a week, and earn points towards a free coffee.  Now that I work from home I make my own coffee.

But a couple of weeks ago, Drew and I stopped at Dunkin' , and the two cups of coffee we bought gave me enough points so that my next cup will be free.

4) Even though today she is an international music star, Ellie still lives modestly. She describes herself as "still in university mode," and limits herself to $10/day for lunch. Where do you economize?

Since I've been working from home, I make my own coffee, and I don't go out to lunch.  And I realized how much money I am saving.  Good place to economize, isn't it?

5) Ellie has proclaimed herself "a cat lady" and often posts pictures of her cats to her Instagram account. What's the most recent photo you took?

6) Ellie appeared on Sesame Street. She, Elmo and Abby thanked clouds for raindrops, lakes, and the water we drink. Would you be thankful for a little rain this weekend?

I'm writing this on Thursday, and raining today.  I'd like to see sun this weekend.

7) In 2011, the year "Lights" was a hit, Prince William married Kate Middleton. Ellie not only attended the wedding, she sang Elton John's "Your Song" for the couple's first dance. Tell us a song that reminds you of a romance in your life.

We dated in college, and he introduced me to Queen...

8) Also in 2011, AT&T abandoned their attempt to buy T-Mobile. Which company is your cell phone carrier? Are you happy with them?

I got my very first cell phone in 1995.  New York Telephone Company had a kiosk on the underground shopping concourse at the World Trade Center.  The phone was huge!

New York Telephone Company is now Verizon.  And yes, I am still a customer.

9) Random question: What recent experience made you feel old?

My daughter is planning her 30th birthday celebration.  'Nuff said.

  1. Your long-term relationship with Verizon is a testament to their service. I don't know anyone who has kept their provider all along.

  3. It really is terrifying when the "Big Dogs". We little puppies don't know if they will kill each other and then come after us!

We've had Verizon since the beginning of time, too.
DH had one of those ten pound phones! It had had cradle on the space between the two front seats of the van! I then got a phone that you pulled up the antenna on to call out, and then my favorite of all time, the flip phone. That flip phone had an amazing camera on it. I wanted to keep it just for the camera!

  4. We could use some rain here. There's a new fire close enough that I can smell ash in the air. Sigh.
