Saturday 9

Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress)

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Saturday 9: Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress) 1972

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This week's song begins with Hollies' lead singer Allan Clarke telling us of a Saturday night trip downtown, taken at the behest of the FBI. What are your plans for Saturday night? (No, we don't expect you to tell us you'll be working undercover for a government agency.)

We’ll be doing a second Thanksgiving dinner at our house.  Drew is cooking a turkey.  We’re having stuffing and mashed potatoes and scalloped corn and … well, you get the idea.

2) At a bar, he meets a woman in a black dress. The LBD, or little black dress, is a wardrobe staple for many women because it's appropriate for almost any occasion. Let's say you get a last-minute invitation for a "dressy" dinner this weekend and you don't have the time or money to buy something new. What's your go-to outfit from your closet?

I’ve got a burgundy dress that I love.

3) Everyone at the bar starts to run when they hear sirens. Do you often hear sirens in your neighborhood?

No, it’s a quiet neighborhood.  But my last apartment was very close to the firehouse, so I heard sirens all the time,

4) In 1972, the year this week's song was on the charts, Popeye's opened their first fast-food chicken restaurant in Louisiana. Now that the Thanksgiving feast is over, will you be eating any carry-out this weekend?

I’m writing this Thursday morning.  We had Greek carryout last night.  Today I will be eating two different Thanksgiving meals with two different groups of friends/family.  Tomorrow (Friday) will probably be more takeout. As I said,  Saturday Drew and I are hosting another Thanksgiving dinner.  Sunday will be leftovers.

5) Black is this week's signature color because November 24 was Black Friday, when retailers historically have slashed their prices and the holiday shopping season begins. Have you begun your gift shopping?

No.

6) Walmart, Best Buy and Target all advertise heavily on Black Friday. If you could have a $100 gift card from one of those stores, which would you choose? What would you buy?

Probably stuff for my kitchen from Target. And maybe that fancy water fountain for my cats.

7) This Monday is sometimes known as Cyber Monday because shoppers can find big savings online. Do you shop confidently online, or do you worry about security breaches and identity theft?

I use PayPal for online shopping.  I feel safer that way.  And I’ve got good identity theft insurance.

8) What are you thankful for this year?

So many things … I’ll just mention one.  Drew and I moved in together in July.  Our new house in cozy and warm.  I look forward to coming home.

9) Random question: Who was the last person you spoke to on the phone (texting doesn't count)?

Probably a business call.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

  1. I smiled when I saw the reference to the fancy water fountain. When my much loved cat Reynaldo had kidney trouble, the vet advised me to encourage him to drink more water. I placed one of those fountains in my bedroom, "a second watering hole" for him. At first it interested him. Then it seemed to annoy him. It never enticed him to drink, though. Reynaldo was his own cat and went his own way!

  4. It sounds like you're having quite the Thanksgiving weekend. If I was invited to a last minute party and needed something dressy, I would not go. I do not own anything even remotely dressy.

  5. What a blessing to have so many Thanksgiving gatherings! i hope your cats like the fancy fountain. I got one for my Maine Coon a couple of years ago and all he did was tip it over and spill the water constantly.

  6. One time I had black dress I love I would guess it was size 8 or 10. I'm much bigger than that now.
