And the quest continues

Shake Shack. Interesting name for a burger joint. We'd walked past the one in NYC but the lines were always discouraging. Menu looked good, though.

So when they opened one in our stomping grounds . . .in a free standing building at the new Gallery shopping center in Westbury . . .we had to go.

Line was pretty long when we got there, and was literally out the door within a few minutes. But it does move quickly. You order at the counter and you're given a buzzer, like many other restaurants use to let you know your table is ready. When the buzzer goes off you pick up your tray at the counter and try to find a seat. We didn't feel like fighting the crowds, and opted to order our meal "to go".

The lunch/dinner menu is very limited, your options are burgers, hot dogs, and a burger made out of a portobello mushroom. The only "side" is fries; they're crinkle cut and crispy, just the way we like them. Drew ordered a hot dog with several toppings. I got a Shackburger --cheeseburger on a toasted potato roll served with lettuce, tomato and Shack Sauce -- a seasoned mayo. Burgers are cooked "medium" unless you order otherwise. I added bacon to mine, and it was crispy and tasty.

The main attraction here, though, are the shakes and custards. Very extensive menu. You can order a variety of "mix ins" if you want to turn your custard into a "concrete". Drew ordered a strawberry shake and I ordered a black and white.

Now I am about to utter what may be considered heresy. We liked this place better than Bobbys Burger Palace. A lot better. Definitely would go again. And again. And again.

  1. Ahhhh, Shake Shack was higher on my list of burger places to try after reading Danny Meyer's book.

Definitely going to try the next time we're on LI, though an All-American Burger trip is a must do when we're there.

  3. Thanks so much for visiting our Westbury Shack. We've only been open a few short months, but it already feels like home thanks to the warm welcome from the community.

Our team can't wait to see you again soon!
