Another this and that

So for Christmas Eve, we found ourselves on the Nautical Mile in Freeport.  The Nautical Mile is famous for the fine restaurants clustered along a canal; follow Guy Lombardo Avenue down to the waterfront ... Yes, I said Guy Lombardo Avenue, he lived in Freeport from the 1950’s until his death in 1977...anyhow, we ate at the River House Grille.  I had crusty bread dipped in olive oil, lobster bisque, baked clams, shrimp oreganata with linguini in scampi sauce, a nice Prosecco, and a very rich cheesecake for dessert.  Excellent meal.

If you like old fashioned murder mystery movies, like Sleuth or Deathtrap or anything by Agatha Christie, you’ll like Knives Out.  Great cast including Christopher Plummer, Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis and Don Johnson.  Lots of twists and turns as Craig tries to figure out who killed Christopher Plummer...

We saw the movie Christmas morning, and had dinner at the Asian buffet.  Sushi, fried rice, Korean beef ribs, coconut shrimp, boneless pork ribs ...you get the idea.

Stereotype fulfilled.  Again. It’s a tradition. (Cue the Fiddler on the Roof music ...)

The day after Christmas we did ...absolutely nothing.  I shouldn’t say”nothing”, we spent the day watching shows on Drew’s DVR.  Especially Christmas music specials.  There was one he recorded from PBS that had all sorts of great moments from past TV performances.  And another saluting Ed Sullivan.  And of course there was the Disney Christmas parade.

Tomorrow night is the last night of Hanukkah.  Ww will light the menorah tonight, and tomorrow we’ll put it away until next year.  No more Six13 Hanukkah videos ...maybe they’ll do something great for Passover.

The New Year’s Eve plans are set.  We’re headed to a small Italian restaurant.  There will be a special menu (that includes many non-tomato-based options for my very allergic friend) and live music.  Sounds like fun. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

In the meantime, I’m trying to come up with good ‘2020” jokes.

Current read:

The protagonist is Rabbi Aviva Cohen, the leader of a small congregation in New Jersey, who unwittingly finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery.  The author, Ilene Schneider, really is a Rabbi from New Jersey.  I’m really enjoying the book.

So sad to hear Jerry Herman died. He gave us so much music, so much optimism. I saw Bette Midler in the Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly!   in 2017...

May his memory be a blessing.

  1. Your evening sounded nice, smiles. You can have the shrimp, I am allergic to it, sad to say. I do like clams though and the rest of the menu.

I hope you have a great New Years Eve, smiles.

  2. It's nice to have Christmas traditions...

You know, we have the whole year to have fun with 2020 puns. And I bet we don't do a one of them until December 31st.
