holiday angst
It's not even Thanksgiving yet, but already the New Year's Eve drama is beginning...
We spend every New Year's Eve with the same small group of friends. In previous years we have: (1) gone out to a restaurant to celebrate and watch the ball drop; (2) had a party at Drew's house; and (3) gone to a restaurant early in the evening, then headed back to Drew's house to watch the ball drop.
Everyone wants to have a good time, no one wants to spend a lot of money, and no one except Drew is willing to host the gala. One member of our group is allergic to tomatoes, so we have to be careful about the menu.
Last year we went to the New Year's Eve party at an Italian restaurant. I love the restaurant, but they were not equipped to handle a party that night. Disastrous. We left feeling that we had overpaid for the experience.
The previous year we'd gone out for Japanese food and watched the ball drop at Drew's house. The year before that was a horrible, loud party at a banquet hall.
In 2015 we had a lovely evening at a laid-back, casual seafood restaurant. They have not hosted a New Year's Eve party since....
So a few months ago we all discussed how we wanted to celebrate New Year's this time around. The consensus was to go out to dinner early in the evening, then watch the ball drop at Drew's house.
Only...last week, Drew decided he really wasn't up to hosting the group at his house this year.
Sigh....

We don't even venture out of the house after dark on December 31.
ReplyDeleteHope you find a house to have your party ~ early dinner and then home sounds delightful to me ~ LOL ~ I am not even in the mood for Thanksgiving/Holidays ~ much less New Year's ~

Happy Day to You,

We used to have a board game party. If you could find someone else to host, perhaps you could do a potluck. That would take some of the onus off the host. And really, it's time for someone else to host if Drew has been doing it for years.
