Weekend walking

Cold and blustery Saturday.  I had to wear a heavy jacket, and every time I wanted to take a picture I had to decide if it was worth taking off my glove…

I walked south, deeper into Levittown.

This street has houses that were built about 10 years ago.  There are only a handful of houses, my guess is that the land was vacant until these were built. The street is privately owned by their HOA.

Yes, there’s a bit of Christmas here.

But it’s Thanksgiving elsewhere.

Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, all on one house!  But they’re not alone.

That mess of orange on the lawn is an inflatable turkey.

Not sure why this is on their lawn…

Came home and ate a bowl of soup to warm up …

Sunday.  Still windy, but the sun was out and it wasn’t as cold.  Walked north into Hicksville.

Thanksgiving banner on a house decorated for Christmas.

And more signs of Thanksgiving.

And Christmas

And somewhat behind the times

Interestingly, this guy was next door to a house that was decorated for Christmas.

Walking north into Hicksville takes me into another neighborhood, one that was built after the Levitt houses…

You can tell these houses are very different than Levitt homes.  This style was popular in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.  The houses, as built, were significantly larger than the Levitt homes.  The alterations tend to be more cosmetic, like facades and windows.  Not nearly as interesting as Levittown.

I walked 2.26 miles on Sunday.  That’s a record for me.  I didn’t really have a plan, I just sort of wandered.  I can’t really get lost — walk east and I’ll eventually reach Jerusalem Avenue, walk west and I’ll reach Newbridge Road.  Oh, and, yes, my phone has a GPS … though I’ve never had to use it …

  1. That's a big Rudolph! I stick to the smaller ones, more affordable. They don't last more than a few years, the frozen nights seize the motors if I don't bring them in. Our Christmas stuff starts going out after Thanksgiving. There didn't used to be any Thanksgiving yard decor.

  2. That's the great thing with neighborhoods like that, you can't get lost. You know they make touch screen gloves that you can work screens with on. (I bought a pair for someone a couple years back. She said they work great.)

    1. I had those gloves, they didn’t live up to the hype. I must have lost them somewhere.
